Why are we doing all this?

We host a lot of events, put on the @GeorgetownScienceFair, offer Open Houses… but why?

It’s about more than loving the Steam Plant (which we do!) and wanting people to be able to enjoy its layered splendor (though that’s part of it!).

We want you to be able to access more of the Plant. Go up, see inside, feel the heat. We want more art, in more places, for more people. More learning, more joy. And, to be honest, we’d love some central heat and plumbing!

Our goal is to adapt the steamplant for the next 100 years, and 100 million visitors (we’re ambitious!). Being here helps us know our community and allows us to reach you in the future when we’re in need of volunteers, funding, or other support. Together, we can shepherd this incredible landmark into the future. Yours, ours, and this city’s. Stay tuned!

The first show of Marcellus Bonow-Manier’s multi-year residency at The Georgetown Steamplant — two bodies of work under one roof.

13th & Greely opens a world that will continue to be built across the residency, continued in the projects to come — Intercession and What’s Growing. Perimeter Road stands on its own: an inquisition into the future works and a love letter to the building itself.

Opening night 8/7, 5–9pm, with a live set by @no_tiffs and @leavingthefall.

VENT! is returning to the Stream Plant this month, and we’re pretty sure we’ve ALL got something to vent about. Whether it’s a crumbling empire, an aged and undisciplined representative, or a war you didn’t sign up for, there’s plenty to raise our voices about. Want to see for yourself? The Steam Plant hosts open houses on the second Saturday of every month between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with free guided tours at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.

Join us this Saturday at the Georgetown Steam Plant for our monthly open house and a special showing of artworks by the Plein Air Watercolor crew!

Open House is a great chance to see the Steam Plant come to life, get your questions answered, see the plant in ways you probably haven't before, and this time, see art! Plein Air Watercolor artists will be showcasing (and selling) some of the work from the past 3 years worth of GTSP visits.

Be sure to dress warm! The Plant is on average 10º colder than the outside temperature, so don't forget your hat, coat, and gloves so you can have a cozy time.

Doors open at 10am.
Tours led by Seattle City Light's trained docents at 10:30am, 11:30am, and 12:30pm.
Doors close at 2pm.
