We loved connecting with Georgia readers at the Decatur Book Festival! 📚

One reader shared her experience with the Georgia Reads for America 250 Beanstack Challenge and how meaningful it is to have access through our library partners.

This is what statewide literacy looks like: readers, libraries, and communities coming together to make reading part of Georgia’s story.

📚 Georgia Reads Together!

We loved bringing Georgia Reads to the Decatur Book Festival this past Saturday and connecting with readers, families, and communities from across the state.

From celebrating America 250 and the power of civic literacy to sharing resources that support reading at every stage of life, the day was a reminder that literacy is a statewide priority—and everyone has a role to play.

🇺🇸📖 One state. One shared commitment. A Georgia that reads.

Proud to represent Reach Out and Read Georgia alongside the 2026 Georgia Reads Community Award-winning communities workshop, facilitated by Kennesaw State University’s Interactive Research Methods Lab (KSU IRML). 📚✨

A very special thank you to Dr. Chin, Morehouse pediatrician, Advisory Board member, and past President of the Georgia Chapter, AAP for joining us and speaking so beautifully about the power of leveraging the medical home to advance literacy outcomes in Georgia. 🩺💫

We loved the opportunity to reflect and look ahead—using data disaggregation, outcomes, and meaningful metrics to demonstrate the impact of our proven, evidence-based model and continue setting the pace for early literacy across Georgia. 📊💙

One of the best parts was spending time with staff members from the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy and our fellow grant recipients—learning more about the incredible work and purpose behind each community’s efforts, sharing ideas, and making new connections across Georgia. 🤝

Grateful to the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy for bringing us together and to the Georgia Municipal Association for welcoming us into their beautiful space.

What an incredible day of reading together as a community to celebrate literacy and honor America’s 250th anniversary! 📖

On September 21, FCPL welcomed Super Bowl champion Malcolm Mitchell to the Cumming Library for a special storytime commemorating our statewide win in the Georgia Reads for America250 Reading Challenge. Nearly 200 readers gathered to read with Malcolm—including the entire second-grade class from Cumming Elementary. Every participant received a copy of his bestselling children’s book, “Hey, Georgia”, before he captivated the room with his inspiring words and vibrant storytelling. Afterward, he stayed to meet with readers and sign their books!

A huge thank you to Malcolm Mitchell, the Georgia Council on Literacy, the Georgia Municipal Association, and Georgia Public Library Service for helping to make this event possible.

We are also grateful to our community partners who took the time to join us for such an exciting occasion: the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy, the Share the Magic Foundation, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, leaders from Forsyth County Schools, State Librarian Angela Stanley, and the FCPL Board of Trustees. by @georgia__reads

Today was a meaningful day of reflection, learning, and looking ahead! 📚

Georgia Reads was proud to bring together the 2025–2026 Georgia Reads Community Award winners for an evaluation session with GeorgiaForward and Kennesaw State University at the Georgia Municipal Association.

Together, we reflected on the impact of their literacy work, shared lessons learned, and explored how communities can continue building stronger pathways to literacy across Georgia.

We are grateful for the organizations and communities leading this work every day. Their stories, insights, and commitment continue to show what is possible when Georgia reads together. 📖

Your next great story is waiting at your local library and pediatricians office! 📚

Close out Georgia Reads Week by visiting your library. Find a new book, attend a program, get a library card or ask a librarian for a recommendation. Libraries connect families with stories, learning opportunities, helpful resources and welcoming community spaces.

And, pediatric offices across Georgia share the gift of reading during well visit checkups. Visit our website to find a participating pediatrician in your community!📚

Stop by a library and schedule your child’s well visit checkups to discover what treasures await. 📚

We’re proud to be a Georgia Reads grantee and join the statewide literacy movement led by the Georgia Council on Literacy, with support from the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy, to ensure every Georgia child has the opportunity to become a lifelong reader. 🤍

Georgia Reads Week continues in Dr. Lutz’s ED 384/394 Teaching Science in Elementary Education class! 📚🔬

Students read The Dot and explored creative ways to connect literacy and science. They brainstormed science lessons inspired by the story and then created their own science dots!
