6 years ago, my life changed forever.

At the time, I couldn’t imagine what life would look like without my dad in it. The years that followed weren’t always easy, and grief has changed me in more ways than I could ever put into words.

But today, as well as remembering him, I want to take a moment to be proud of myself too.

I’m proud of the resilience I found when I didn’t know I had any left. I’m proud of the life I’ve continued to build.

In those six years, I’ve met an amazing man who loves and cares for me, been promoted twice, moved to a different county, made wonderful new friends while holding tightly onto the ones who have always been there, and learnt more than ever how important family, love and my values are to me.

And now, six years later, I’m buying my first home — something I wish more than anything I could tell my dad about.

Grief doesn’t disappear as the years pass. You just learn how to carry it alongside everything else. There will always be a part of me that wishes he was here to see the person I’ve become and all the things that have happened since.

But I hope, wherever he is, he’d be proud of me.
