Sports & women’s health physio + athlete on a comeback ✨

Very appreciative of the team being so welcoming of an extra physio coming on board and letting me be around the team 🙌🏼

It’s such a benefit to have a consistent health team around high level athletes, particularly in leagues like the NBA where you can get traded midway through seasons.

This allows continuity of care for the athletes and helps everyone flow into new environments together! taken in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain by @georgiaralphh

5 things I’d tell you as a physio if I wasn’t worried about hurting your feelings 👀

1. Rest alone isn’t going to fix your issue
If it’s been weeks (or months…), your body probably needs the right movement - not more time off.

2. “Tight” doesn’t always mean “stretch it”
Sometimes those muscles feel tight because they’re weak or overworked. Holding a stretch is pretty outdated now that we have more research!

3. Your posture isn’t the main problem
There’s no such thing as a perfect posture. Your body just hates staying in one position too long.

4. Pain doesn’t always mean damage
Pain is complex. You can hurt without being injured—and that’s actually good news for recovery.

5. You’re probably doing too much… or not enough
Rehab is about the right amount of load. Guessing usually keeps you stuck.

Bonus: Google isn’t your physio (sorry 😅)

If something’s not improving, it might be time to get a proper plan.…

We all know someone who needs this! 😜 by @georgiaralphh

Quote of the week: “The day you think there is no improvements to be made is a sad one for any player.”
- Messi

Always inspired by the drive Patty has to get better every day. He’s truly one of a kind! 16th year in the NBA and still doing the 1%ers 🙌🏼 taken in Salt Lake City, UT by @georgiaralphh

Pain isn’t always a direct reflection of tissue damage. 🧠

Think about a sunburn… the tissue is irritated, but your nervous system also becomes much more protective. Suddenly, something as simple as clothing touching your skin can feel painful.

Chronic pain can involve similar processes.

Pain is real, but understanding why someone hurts requires us to look beyond the tissues alone and consider the nervous system, context, sleep, stress, previous experiences and perceived threat.

This is why understanding pain science matters so much in clinical practice.

If you’re a physio or health professional wanting to deepen your understanding of chronic pain, check out the Chronic Pain lecture from Learn.Physio.

It’s a great resource for understanding the science behind pain and, importantly, how we can apply it clinically.

👉 Head to @learn.physio to check it out.

Your abs deserve to be trained at FULL length 👀

When we only train exercises like crunches, we’re mostly challenging the abs when they’re already shortened.

Training your abs through a longer range can help you:

✨ Build strength through more of your available range
✨ Improve control and stability
✨ Challenge your core in a different way
✨ Develop strength when your trunk is extended or lengthened
✨ Make your core training more functional and varied

Think: dead bugs, long-lever planks, hollow body variations, overhead movements and exercises where your ribs and pelvis have to work together while the trunk is lengthened.

It’s not about saying crunches are “bad”… they’re a great exercise.

It’s about giving your abs more than one way to work 💪

Train them short. Train them long. Train them strong. by @georgiaralphh

If you are having trouble with the back of your shoe slipping when you run or change direction, try this shoelace tie!

Usually best for people with orthotics or heel lifts!

Let me know how you go!

Try to elevate our sleep routine cause we know sleep is the best thing for recovery and development.

Currently in the process of trying to convince Jason that we should also have one in our room so I can listen to rain sounds too 😂

I think Sky will love it!!
