Today we dove with this beautiful eagle ray, she was so relaxed, swooping around her cave. Janaina noticed a bulge in her belly and suspected she was pregnant. I hope her babies have a safe start to the world. It’s been a long time dream of mine to swim with dolphins and I finally got lucky with this calm and playful group of Bottlenose! It was fairly fleeting but I loved swimming along with them and seeing their expressions as they checked me out. Another spectacular day out on the blue with @sea_therapy_azores 🐬 by @georgie.holman

I’ve spent the past 2 months looking over at Pico from harbour and this week everything lined up and I finally got to climb it with friends. 🌋 We got so lucky with the weather, as so often it’s summit it shrouded in cloud. We had an incredible sunset, clear skies all night, the Milky Way streaking above the caldera and then a stunning sunrise the next morning. This trip reminded me of how much I love camping up in the mountains and has only made me want to do more of it. I’m feeling so grateful for this summer and all the fun to be had here in the Azores. It will definitely be hard to leave this special place. by @georgie.holman

Sweet fishy memories from last weeks trip to Princess Alice Bank. I’m blown away by the diversity of life here and the volume of fish. We had a bonus swim with a sunfish (also known as a mola mola) on our way back to shore. Amaaazing 🐟 🦈 @gosharkazores by @georgie.holman

I’m still seeing fish when I close my eyes! It’s been a dream of mine for so long to freedive amongst a school like this, to be surrounded by big fish. These amber jacks were so beautiful, and huuuuge, cruising around at 15-20m. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the feeling of hanging there suspended, as they all moved in and started circling me. It’s so good to hear that since last year these guys are protected from fishing within this incredible reserve. Grateful for the amazing conditions and this time in the blue. Tonks has a mast again! ⛵️ 25 days after Sam, Kelda & Alessa arrived in Horta under jury rig, this morning we stepped their new mast — and it couldn’t have gone more smoothly.While they were still making their way to safety after the dismasting, Jasper & I spotted a mast lying on top of a container in the boatyard here. It looked about the right length… somehow, it turned out to be exactly what they needed. We tracked down the owner and, luckily, they were happy to sell it.Since then, everything has seemed to fall into place. The sailing community truly rose to the occasion — not only through the GoFundMe, but through countless acts of kindness. A small army helped move the mast, one boat donated an old sail, another sailor carried back a bag of chandlery supplies from the UK… the list goes on.It’s been amazing to watch these guys recover from such a stressful situation and come out the other side smiling. There’s been a lot of uncertainty along the way, but by trusting the process, somehow it’s all working out.There’s still plenty to do before Tonks is ready to sail again, but today feels like a huge milestone.Massive credit to Sam & Kelda’s ingenuity, resilience and experience.Congrats guys 💛 xx #dismasting #sailing #boatlife@sam.coltman @keldasmith by @georgie.holman

I had a great day out on the water yesterday with @gosharkazores We waited patiently all day. A minke whale passed close by the boat, we spent a while surrounded by an enormous pod of dolphins, and eventually slipped into the water with this blue shark.It was my first time seeing a blue, and it felt very different from any of the other sharks I’ve spent time with before. This one seemed shy and gently curious. Definitely the most elegant shark I’ve met so far.I was sad to see a wound around its body and gills, likely caused by fishing gear—a reminder of how much these animals contend with.It’s still early in the season here, so I feel super lucky to have had this short encounter! I liked something our guide Mariana said: “In the ocean, everything is possible, but nothing is guaranteed.”It’s been a long time since I’ve spent a day like this—waiting, watching, and not knowing what might appear next. It was also fun to nerd out with a boat full of marine biologists 💙 by @georgie.holman
