New work, on wooden board.

Title: Clarity And Solitude

Bringing elements together.
Using a mix of acrylic paint, pastel stick, charcoal, and dry ground pigments…letting the studies of texture and colour flow into abstract intuitive landscapes. I paint the way nature feels, as a fluent, always transient presence and an ever-changing language of colours, using the full vocabulary of these materials to capture the land and coast.

Studying coastal landscapes these rocky shores are the true historians of the coast.

Texture is where the history of the landscape is written. The surface of coastal rock is deeply gnarled and weathered by sandladen waves and relentless tides

The coastal edge, a living canvas, especially on afternoons when the receding tide exposes the true anatomy of the shore. On closer observation, the flat surfaces reveal themselves to be multi-layered, evoking plenty of thought for textures and colours.

Following rocks.

The coastal landscape exists as a vast, shifting shoreline between land and water, where the elements create a continuous study in texture and color.

Rock surfaces, rough and marked , carved by centuries of salt spray. Others are colored in bands of rust-orange, deep charcoal, and pale ochre.

The coastal soil, dusky and damp in some stretches, absorbing the impact of each stride. In drier areas, it turns to a loose, pale clay.
