PRE-SET DP FEEDS ‼️

The less movement (post-catch) we can have on a DP feed, the better.

When we beat the ball to the spot EARLY, we can:

1) Pre-set glove foot half a step behind throwing foot to clear hips. Field right center of body, stay tight, feed slightly uphill.

2) Drop to throwing knee in advance; field on throwing knee, stay tight, feed slightly uphill.

HAND ACTIVATION ‼️

Hand activation serves as the base for any infielder in regards to a properly structured routine. My guy @jordanlawlar looks like 💧 as he flows through this particular progression. Few things to note:

1) Hands / arms are free & loose; nothing is fully flexed, zero stiffness, and the ball never stops moving.

2) Movement forward is a subtle push; if we over exaggerate our push, it takes us longer to get back to center. Simple is cleaner.

3) Glove & hand presentation works at 10 & 2. ⏱️

4) Eyes follow ball through the catch / exchange, maintaining posture throughout.

5) Brings ball back to center after push in a controlled move, allowing elbows to fold outward (like a chicken wing) on the funnel.

How often are we targeting & challenging particular post-catch sequencing patterns?

The PC foot pattern that is often neglected (especially at the younger levels) is the on the run gather movement (OTRG).

WHEN to use?

1) Mediocre GB (snake / rabbit / kangaroo) hit few steps to arm side.

2) Mediocre / slower hit, fielded on run, have time to set feet if time allows (can also stay on the run).

TRICK PLAYS ‼️

Practicing trick plays is a great way to have fun with your infield play while also expanding your defensive repertoire. The best infielders play free and loose; trick plays allow us to get out of our head, free ourselves up, trust our hands, unlock new movements, and promote athleticism. Sometimes it’s best to stop overthinking and discover new ways of being athletic.

1) You never know when you will have to use a trick play in game (although few, there will be times).

2) Unlocks greater trust between hands, feet, & eyes.

3) Promotes athleticism.

GAS PEDAL TIMING ‼️

Glove foot heel should hit the ground in sync with the catch. The pre-contact fielding sequence w/ feet should be “non-glove foot step —> glove foot step in sync with the catch.”

For righties, think “right f, left f, field.”
For lefties, think “left f, right f, field.”

The heel —> toe move will happen naturally; the timing is what needs to be the focus of the move. Time it to be in sync w/ the catch.

Tapping is a natural movement that syncs up timing & rhythm. If the infielder is efficient, productive, & comfortable with the move, don’t take it away! Love this sequencing.

❌ Backhand hitch - Glove closes and turn towards body prior to fielding. Results in late glove presentation.

❌ Slightly late w/ heel —> toe gas pedal landing. Results in poor back leg stabilization x early head shift forward.

❌ Uses 4 step pattern on infield in. Infield in plays should typically result in a 2 step foot pattern, especially when most players will resort to down angle / contact read (per situation).

Great player, but great example to use as a learning point! 👊🏼

On a backhand OTR, it is best to keep the throwing hand above the shoulder on the throw. This will promote carry and direct aim w/ limited tail, vs a throw with a significant amount of tail with not much on it if thrown below the shoulder.

On deep throws, fight to stay above the baseball or above the shoulder. ✅
