Happy International Women’s Day 🌱✨

Two years ago today, I released this tune—a piece born from deep reflection, inspired by the powerful words of Audre Lorde and the lived experiences of the woman

The lyrics draw from Lorde’s stirring poem, The Women of Dan Dance with Swords in Their Hands to Mark the Time When They Were Warriors (Dahomey). This work speaks to resilience, strength, and the echoes of history carried in our bodies.

As I revisit this song, I’m reminded of the fire and wisdom that shaped it. I look forward to sharing it, along with traditional Haitian and reimagined tunes, in my upcoming performances. Here’s to the voices that move us, the stories that shape us, and the music that keeps them alive.

Upcoming gig:

Borderlines & Bloodlines 🌿

Thank you to everyone who’s been sharing and supporting this tune and the album since it was a seedling. A huge shout out and gratitude to Switzerland and Japan for being the top streamers of this track! 🇨🇭🇯🇵 Merci ✨ Arigato gozaimasu!

As we approach the anniversary of the release of Borderlines & Bloodlines (both the track and the album) this feels like a particularly meaningful time to revisit the song and reflect on the conversations it continues to open.

At a time when migration and belonging are the subject of increasing tension, I find myself returning to the questions at the heart of this work: What happens when we encounter difference?
….Do we hold tightly to the boundaries we’ve drawn around identity and belonging…or do we allow ourselves to become curious about the histories, connections and experiences that extend beyond them?

Audre Lorde reminds us:

‘It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences’

For me, Borderlines & Bloodlines is an invitation to listen beyond the borders we inherit and the assumptions we carry.

Thank you for listening wherever you are in the world 🙏🏾💛🌿

⸻

‘Too often, we pour the energy needed for recognizing and exploring difference into pretending those differences are insurmountable barriers, or that they do not exist at all. This results in a voluntary isolation or false and treacherous connections. Either way, we do not develop tools for using human difference as a springboard for creative change within our lives.’

Audre Lorde

*English Translation Below

Madainn an diugh ghabh mi cuairt suas gu Pàirc and Rìgh. Bha ghrian a’ dèarrsadh agus dathan an fhoghair cho brèagha, eoin a’ ceilearadh agus airson mionaid dhiochuimhnich mi gun robh mi ann an meadhan a’ bhaile mhòir. ‘S e seo a’ phairc a brosnaich mi gus Bànrighinn na Bealltainn a sgrìobhadh.

Nam b’urrainn dhomhsa coimhairle thoirt seachad ‘s e sin cuairt a ghabhail agus a bhith mun cuairt air nàdar. Tha e cho math airson slainnt’ inntinn. Cluinnidh sibh ceilearadh nan eun aig an deireadh.

Air an 15mh den Damhair tha mi fhèin agus Josie Duncan a’ seinn òrain ùra mar phairt de Guth a’ Bhaile cuirm a tha Ceol is Craic a cuir air adhart aig àm a Mhod Nàiseanta. Feuch gun tig sibh ann mas urrainn dhuibh. Bith Fàilte Bhlàth romhaibh.

This morning I took a wander up to King’s Park. The sun was shining the autumn colours were beautiful and nature alive and for a moment I forgot I was in the city. This beautiful park is the inspiration for Bànrighinn na Bealltainn. If I could give one bit of advice today it is to get outside and enjoy the beauty of nature. Watch to the end and listen to the birdies!

On 15th October I’ll be singing songs from my album Glaschu Songs to a City at the @ceoliscraic concert Guth a Bhaile Voice of the City on Thursday 15th October at 8pm in the Strathclyde Suite in the Concert Hall. I’ll be joined by @germa_music who produced the album and has performed some of the songs with me over the summmer.

Performing alongside me is @josieduncansong who will be singing some brilliant songs she composed recently. We were both involved in @glasgow.life GUIR project in 2023 and wrote some of our Gaelic songs. This concert is part of @modghlaschu2026 fringe. tickets available via Glasgow Life and 🔗 in bio. I would love to see you at the concert. 😎 by @germa_music

Broadstairs Folk Week

A few more for the summer scrapbook 📖 🌊🎻

Another wonderful and inspiring time performing with Mairi and delivering a workshop on our collab. It was joy performing tunes from Mairi’s album Glaschu Songs to a City - sharing beautiful tunes from Mairi’s pocket as well as my own. It was also joy to share more in the workshop about the organic process behind our collaboration and how our individual music and our mother roots weave themselves into the music we create together 🌿

it’s been truly a joy to express and make music from the roots 🌿

Getting to see Muco’s beautiful set and singing along to Sumer Is Icumen In.

Great to catch up with lovely people
