☻ German Design Graduates is the central platform for design graduates in Germany.

Sponsored by the German Design Council Foundation, GDG is the only nationwide platform for promoting graduates in design, making emerging talent visible and actively supports their growth. How?

The programme offers a central platform to publish final projects and gain visibility among companies, media, and institutions. Selected works may be showcased in internationally recognised exhibitions, while workshops and events provide direct contact with industry partners and potential employers. Participants can also use their projects as strong references for applications and collaborations, while building a valuable professional network.

→ Discover the themes shaping the next generation of designers.

Join Us at Our Exhibition Opening German Design Graduates 2026: Make It Make Sense

✨ Opening: 15 October 2026, 7pm
🗓 Make It Make Sense Exhibition: 16 October – 29 November 2026
📍 Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum

"Make It Make Sense" began as a phrase from internet culture – a sharp response to overwhelming, contradictory situations. Applied to design, it becomes a question of method: How can complex relationships be structured and made accessible? German Design Graduates 2026 take up this idea, presenting around 70 selected graduation projects from around 30 German universities.

Discover works spanning product and industrial design, communication and digital design, and textile and fashion design – together with the exhibiting graduates. The selection offers a glimpse into the breadth of current design approaches and shows how a new generation of designers is engaging with pressing social and technological developments.

The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of full-day workshops bringing graduates together with companies and institutions, alongside discussion forums and a round-table for representatives of higher education institutions.

Last night, we opened MAKE IT MAKE SENSE together with so many of you. Featuring 71 graduate projects from 28 German universities, the exhibition shows how design can respond to the challenges of our time. From a biomimetic system that removes oil from water to an AI-powered prosthetic hand that automatically selects the right grip – there’s plenty to discover!

Thank you to everyone who joined us! The exhibition is on view until 29 November 2026.

New workshop, who's in? Can design create empathy? Designing with constraints.

How does design change when not everyone has the same possibilities? In this workshop, you'll try out exactly that in a playful way. In small groups, you'll draw a task and a constraint, for example: transport a bucket from A to B with limited space. All groups receive the same materials, such as wooden sticks, rubber bands or textiles, and may only use these.

Together, you'll develop a simple solution and build a prototype. You'll experience first-hand how different conditions and needs influence design. The workshop invites you to change perspectives, develop solutions together and discover how empathy and social design can emerge from concrete constraints. 💡

Together with designer Marie Kurstjens (@marie.kurstjens), German Design Newcomer of the Year 2026. The workshop is open to everyone and is aimed especially at adults. No prior knowledge is required.

📍 The Rotunda, Pinakothek der Moderne
🗓 Friday, 16 October 2026, 10.30am to 1.30pm
🎟️ Participation is included in the entry price; tickets available at the till or in the ticket shop

Part of: the exhibition "Make It Make Sense", a collaboration between Die Neue Sammlung and German Design Graduates, an initiative of the German Design Council Foundation

Workshop alert! Getting to grips with clay

Clay is not a nostalgic building material. It is one of humanity's oldest materials and, at the same time, a forward-looking answer to the challenges of building today.

In this workshop, we'll explore the properties, potential and applications of clay together with Tobias Trübenbacher (@tobias.truebenbacher), German Design Newcomer of the Year 2023, and Björn Klug (@bjoernklug) from the design studio GIMG. Through your own experiments, the material becomes tangible: its mass, surface, malleability and the marks it leaves. 🤲

The workshop brings together knowledge, exchange and hands-on work. Please wear clothes that can get dirty or bring an apron or an old shirt to put on over them. The workshop is open to everyone and is aimed especially at adults. No prior knowledge is required.

Workshop alert! Create your own algae yarn!

Dive into the fascinating world of biomaterials and create your very own algae yarn in this workshop, from recipe to finished textile! Together with designer Juni Sun Neyenhuys (@junisun_), German Design Newcomer of the Year 2025, you'll mix microalgae pigments into a biomaterial recipe made from brown algae polymers, spin your yarn from it, and crochet or knit it into a unique little piece of fabric.

The workshop is aimed at adults and children accompanied by an adult, and offers not only creative making but also exciting insights: What are biomaterials, why are brown algae a sustainable alternative to plastic, and how can microalgae as natural dyes shape our future? 🌱

🎟️ Participation is included in the entry price; tickets available at the till or in the ticket shop
