I did not receive Holy Communion for 7 years. 🕊️

I was born Catholic. But for seven years I left the Church, hopping from one church to another, looking for something that was never lost. It could be found right where I was running from.

Since I started Get To Mass, I’ve had a lot of calls and messages asking who I am and why I’m doing this. Who is the person behind it? What’s his motivation?

Those are fair questions. So earlier this year, I wrote it all down: my life as a Catholic from childhood until now, at 30. Leaving, searching, and finding my way home. There are photos too, the whole story. 📖

5am. I’ve been at this desk since 6:30pm yesterday. 😮‍💨

No studio, no editing, just me and a screen full of parish Facebook pages, crosschecking Mass schedules one by one so that when you open Get To Mass, the time you see is the time Mass actually starts. ⛪

This is the unglamorous part nobody sees. But if one person gets to Mass on time because of it, it’s worth it. 🙏

“Precious God, receive our sacrifice.” 🙏

At this moment in Mass, the choir began Ezi Chukwu Nara Aja Anyi, one of the best-loved offertory songs in Catholic liturgy across Nigeria. I had to stop and record.

The song is a simple prayer. We bring the fruit of the land and offer it, knowing it could never repay God’s love. We offer it for the living and the dead, and we ask Him to take it, bless it and make it holy.

“You’re here for the Passion of Christ, right?”

Someone at the gate said that to me on my way to Stations of the Cross, and it stopped me. Walking from station to station, watching what Jesus endured, I looked up the word.

Passion comes from the Latin passio: to suffer, to endure.

So all my life I’d understood it wrong. Passion isn’t just what you enjoy. It’s what you’re willing to suffer for. Nothing good comes without that. You play the guitar badly before you play it well. You fall and get hurt before you master the game.

That idea now guides everything I do, including Get To Mass. It’s not for profit, and it will be free forever. Right now I’m putting the last money I have into it.

A passion project means something different to me now: a project you’re willing to suffer for. And I count it a privilege. 🙏
