The 26 October 1986 was known as ‘D-Day’, when the disastrous policy of bus deregulation was imposed everywhere across England, Scotland and Wales, except London.

It caused chaos, by stripping control over vital bus services away from public bodies and handing it to private companies instead. Since then, we’ve lost millions of miles of routes, fares have risen well above inflation and most parts of the country have been left with an expensive, unreliable and fragmented bus system that does not meet communities’ needs.

But after 40 years of failure, the tide is finally turning against bus deregulation. New publicly-controlled systems are now in place – or soon will be over the next few years – in many parts of England and Wales.

Join our Better Buses National Conference Online Event to hear more about the grassroots campaigns which have led to this much needed policy change. We will learn more about the history of bus deregulation, the campaigners who fought against it at the time, and the devastating impact it has had on human rights.

There will be time for discussion in breakout rooms exploring the progress being made in different parts of the country, sharing skills and providing tips to help you get involved in the fight for Better Buses for all.

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE

2 out of 15 stations is not and will never be good enough.
The hostility and apathy disabled people experience at the hands of SPT for simply using their service is abhorrent and also NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Sit stand wobble and roll with us as we peacefully protest for an accessible subway that ALL members of the public can use, with choice and dignity.

Come to our peaceful protest on Sunday 11th October 1pm outside Kelvinbridge station (carpark entrance)

Disabled people deserve better.

I know you know this, so join us!

And a friendly reminder to sign and share our petition which is in our bio! The more signatures we have, the higher the chance we will be heard, help us by amplifying our voice.

Capitalism at work : sell public bus companies, deregulate private bus companies, let hem withdraw from unprofitable routes, watch their profits disappear to shareholders. People deserve better than this. From our chatt with Susie Wood of @getglasgowmoving

resistance is FERTILE

Currently on show - two models from the 2023 'mutual aid NOW' series can be seen as part of 'Get Glasgow Moving' and 'Govanhill Baths, Ours!' exhibitions in Glasgow, for the next few days.

These two dioramas - 'demonstration is democracy' and 'occupation not eviction' refer to and highlight various campaigns and groups from - Get Glasgow Moving, Carfree Glasgow and Just Stop Oil, to the Free Heatherington, Baile House and Govanhill Baths amongst others. They are part of two really important and deeply detailed shows documenting how when we individuals work together in common cause we are stronger and can be more effective. Give yourself the time to delve into the rich details and archival parts of these wonderful exhibitions.

I'll be doing some more archival posts soon looking back at various work and projects I've done over the last forty years or so... TBC as they say. In the meantime go check these out.

📸✨ 10 YEARS OF GET GLASGOW MOVING! 🚌
A decade of campaigning, community, big wins, setbacks and the fight for a better public transport system in Glasgow. And now, some of my photographs are part of the story. 📸
It was brilliant to be at the opening of the Get Glasgow Moving 10th Anniversary Photography Exhibition at New Glasgow City.

Thank you to all the campaigners and cross-party politicians who have supported this campaign over the years and helped highlight just how important it is for Glasgow and the wider region to have a better, more reliable and accessible bus network.

From local people and activists coming together in September 2016 to a campaign that has grown into one of Scotland’s best-known passenger groups this exhibition captures a decade of people, places, campaigning and change.
📍 1307 Argyle Street, Glasgow, G3 8TL
📅 On display until 23 September
🕛 12pm–5pm
Come along, see the photographs, learn about the journey and celebrate the people who have kept Glasgow moving. 🚌📸
And yes… keep an eye out for my photographs!

Join us to celebrate the first decade of the Get Glasgow Moving public transport campaign at this special anniversary exhibition and discussion event at the New Glasgow Society as part of Glasgow Doors Open Day Festival 2026.

1307 Argyle Street
Glasgow, G3 8TL

18–23 September 2026
Exhibition open every day, 12noon-5pm

Launch event and discussion:
Thursday 17 September 2026, 6-8pm

---

In September 2016, a group of local people got together to launch the Get Glasgow Moving public transport campaign, which has since grown to become one of the most well-known and well-respected passenger groups in Scotland.

Join us to celebrate Get Glasgow Moving's first decade, as we reflect on the big wins, and some set-backs, which have got us to where we are today - on the cusp of finally seeing a world-class, fully-integrated public transport system rolled-out across our region through SPT's plans to deliver bus franchising and Clyde Metro. The opening event will feature a discussion with key activists involved in the campaign's launch, and who have volunteered their time in fight for better public transport over the last ten years.

Presented as part of the Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival 2026.
