Important Announcement

After 31 years at the heart of Leicester’s music community, we must share the difficult news that The Shed will be closing, with our final night taking place on New Year’s Eve.

This decision has not been made lightly. We want to be clear that we have pursued every possible avenue to secure the venue’s future. Our team, management, and staff have all worked tirelessly, both publicly and behind the scenes, to keep The Shed operating. Despite these sustained efforts, we have reached a point where continuing is no longer viable.

While this is an incredibly hard announcement to make, we would like to place the emphasis on what The Shed has represented over the past three decades. For 31 years, it has been a space for live music, creativity, and community. It has supported emerging artists, hosted countless performances, and stood as a platform for Leicester’s cultural and alternative scenes.

It has been a privilege to contribute to the city’s musical landscape and to support so many musicians, promoters, audiences, and creatives. We are immensely proud of the history built within these walls and grateful to everyone who has been part of it.

As we approach our final night on the 31st December, we hope you will join us in recognising and celebrating everything The Shed has meant to so many people.

Tonight is the one.

As it’s our final night, we’re keeping entry FREE so everyone has the chance to come down and enjoy The Shed one last time.
Entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis and we expect to hit capacity early. Once full, it will be one in, one out.

🕢 Doors open 7:30pm
🎤 Alt karaoke 7:30–10:30pm
🎶 Final clubnight 11pm–4am
⏰ Last entry 3am (entry cannot be guaranteed if queues are in place)

Having opened in 1994, 31 years of live music makes The Shed the longest-running of all Leicester’s grassroots music venues. Across three decades the venue has more than ably delivered on those two key grassroots ambitions: to nurture talent and propel emerging artists forward, and to create a safe space where communities are able to affordably access original live music. This exemplary work provided a platform for legions of artists and in doing so made The Shed a cornerstone of Leicester’s live music scene. It’s no exaggeration to say that this commitment helped place Leicester on good footing alongside primary UK touring locations.

Sadly, despite the dedication of The Shed team and an illustrious history, the venue has reached a juncture where continuing isn’t manageable and the Shed will close after one last hurrah this New Years Eve. Leicester has lost a significant portion of its cultural landscape, artists and live music professionals have one fewer space to work from, and local live music communities are far worse off. Everyone loses.

Depressingly, we are still waiting to see a more joined-up approach from the arena and stadium end of the industry, where significant national support for the grassroots sector would prevent closures like this. Each month of delay forces more grassroots venues closer to the brink and wreaks havoc on communities, just like the community currently reeling at the closure of The Shed. by @getintheshed94
