Two breakups in two months, and it is officially time for me to become my own girlfriend ❤️‍🩹

As a queer polyamorous lover girl, I have a lot of experience healing through heartbreak. This year, however, I am dealing with my biggest challenge yet: rebuilding my life and becoming my own girlfriend after going through breakups with both of my primary partners in less than two months.

Step one? Reconnecting with me and finding new ways to recenter myself as the love of my own life.

Drop me a ❤️ if you’ve ever gone through a painful breakup and had to prioritize yourself to get through it. And follow along for more queer poly love, heartbreak, and healing ✨

jealousy is just information. it is often villianized as a feeling we should avoid, but i’ve found treating it like a flashlight and a healing guide has helped me become more secure in myself, and ultimately turned me into a better partner ❤️

what has jealousy taught you, or what tips do you have for dealing with it? let me know in the comments, and follow @getnakedlove for more queer poly love, heartbreak, and healing ✨

what does solo polyamory mean to you?

to me, it means prioritizing and nurturing my relationship with myself as my top priority. it means throwing out the relationship escalator or expectations of enmeshment, and designing something unique that actually works for the parties involved. it means that i consider myself my primary partner, and i navigate life accordingly.

what practices help you pour into your relationship with yourself? let me know in the comments, and follow @getnakedlove for more on all things polyamory 🌼

Can you date someone monogamous as a polyamorous person? Yes! But it won’t always be easy. Here’s what I didn’t have time to say in the video 👇

1. Neither of you is the problem to fix. Monogamy is a valid orientation, not an insecurity. Polyamory is a valid orientation, not an excuse for bad behavior. Don’t enter this hoping they open up, or that l’ll close down. Informed consent means they’re choosing this with eyes open, not tolerating it and waiting.

2. Compersion is not required. Jealousy will show up for both of you. The skill is asking for what you need while you feel it, not performing happiness. It’s especially important to approach these relationships with so much empathy and desire for understanding, as both of you might be navigating emotions and situations that are new to you.

3. Build agreements together, then revisit them. Ask early how much they want to know (details or just the headline) and check in again, because it changes. Talk safer sex explicitly and often, since it directly affects their body. It is so important that both people feel safe, supported, and heard as you navigate together.

4. Protect their time. Scheduled and intentional, not whatever’s left over.

5. Invite them into your why. I’ve found it helps when monogamous partners get curious about how I understand polyamory and what ethical means to me.
Not as homework, but as something to explore together. Polysecure, The Ethical Slut, More Than Two, and Opening Up are great starting points. I’ve also found that with mono people considering opening up themselves, this is extremely important (a non-negotiable for any relationships I enter into with someone who’s previously only been monogamous, personally) because compulsory monogamy is so deeply rooted, and doing non-monogamy ethically often requires relearning, repatterning, and a whole lot of intention.

Monogamous folks, what helped you feel secure in a relationship with a poly partner? Polyamorous people, what has your experience been with this? Let me know in the comments 👇👇🤍

you don’t need to go out to a bar to have fun. all you need is the right people, a cute little dinner party, some halloween house walking tours, and a living room dance party ❤️ grateful every day to be gay

start with “why.” why do you feel that way? where do those beliefs stem from? keep asking why. get to the root of it. that’s where understanding comes from.

drop me your best tips for these hard conversations ❤️

a message to the “good guys” - WE NEED YOUR HELP.

r*pists aren’t born, they’re made. they’re made every time a man gets away with a “joke” that s*xualizes or dehumanizes women. every time a victim is blamed, suggesting she brought it upon herself based on what she drank, what she wore, or where she went. every time the powerful structures above us forgive men for wrongdoing, and allow a woman’s biggest trauma to go unpunished, it tells the so-called “bad men” that r*pe is okay. and if i am being so honest? it normalizes a culture that makes the lines of consent so blurry, that some of the “good men” don’t even realize when they cross them.

if you’re one of the good guys, don’t get mad that women are feeling scared or angry right now. don’t cling to “it’s not all men.” because yes, obviously, it’s not all men. but most of them contribute to the problem.

if you’ve ever sexualized a woman without her consent, if you’ve ever excused a buddy’s raunchy comments, or looked the other way when he took home a girl that was too drunk to consent, you’ve been part of the problem. if you’ve ever said someone “runs like a girl,” or mansplained unnecessarily, or looked down on something feminine, you’ve been part of the problem. if you’ve ever joked about “a woman’s place,” or put any effort into convincing a woman to have s*x with you after she hesitated or flat out said no, if you’ve ever felt like you’re entitled to s*x because you paid for dinner, you’ve been part of the problem. if you’ve ever cat called a woman, if you’ve ever shamed one for being promiscuous, if you’ve ever held women to a different standard than men, you’ve been part of the problem.

i don’t say this to make you feel guilty. i say this to help you understand all of the little micro moments that lead to something like the cornell seven.

but YOU can choose to start fighting the problem, instead of being part of it. start calling out bad behavior, even if it makes you uncomfortable. we need you. protect women. do better, i beg of you 🙏🏼
