Falling for the wrong person? The Buzzcocks sang about it. Black Hats have a rather more direct solution: get out, get moving and stop wasting your precious time on a lover who’s doing you no favours. With their latest release, ‘Not With Another’, the Oxford indie-rock trio turn romantic regret into a punchy, groove-driven escape route, and they sound all the better for it.

Episode 41 of Audio Underground is here. 🎙
This week we are shining a light on Beaker, an all-female indie rock band out of Oxford, UK who made serious noise on the UK scene in the late 90s before going their separate ways in 1999. Twenty-five years later, the loss of their beloved bassist Kim Parsons brought them back together, and what came out of that grief is nothing short of remarkable.
Their comeback single 50 Men is a fierce, powerful tribute to Gisele Pelicot and every survivor like her. Shame should change sides.
And singer Sam said it best: being an old lady in a heavy rock band feels even more ‘not the done thing’ than being a girl in a band felt in the 90s. She loves that.
Also on Episode 41: an exclusive interview with Har Mar Superstar ahead of his show this Saturday @route47pubngrub in Fridley, MN, an exclusive interview with Bridge 55, okleland, and Max Boost and the Power-Ups.

I’m very honoured to have been asked to promote the new track “50 Men” by Oxford band @beaker.oxford

It’s the band’s first single in 27 years, produced and mixed by esteemed producer Sam Williams (Supergrass, Plan B) at Temple Sound Studios throwing you back to the peak of the riot girl era of L7, Hole and the Breeders while still sounding edgy, fierce and current.

The track is a tribute to Gisele Pelicot. She profoundly changed the narrative around shame and sexual violence, with her awe-inspiring response, when she waived her right to anonymity in the trial against her ex-husband and 51 other perpetrators. “Shame should change sides”.

Yesterday was a major Beaker day! The single was released on Bandcamp and Spotify and already with no promo they have been on BBC Breakfast TV, 5 Live Radio, Radio Bristol and have a documentary about them on Radio 4 “Band of Mothers” coming out on the 7th. It’s already proving to be very exciting being part of the world of Beaker!

Please contact me if you’d like to play or review the track or interview the band. by @getslouder

Excited to be sharing two tracks ‘Building’ & ‘From This Height’ for radio promo from the beautiful vinyl reissue of @untruth_band ‘s atmospheric debut album ‘Almost Here’. 28 years after its original release it’s fantastic to be bringing these tracks from the album to a whole new generation and in turn giving them an opportunity to shine again. by @getslouder

Pleased to welcome the wonderful @emma_hunter_music to Gets Louder. 1950s-inspired guitarist, and loop-maker Emma Hunter, together with the trip-hop-inspired percussionist Tom Bruce, and bassist Hayley Wright, create evocative, sun-blistered soundscapes. Intricate melodies and harmonies lie at the heart of every darkly imaginative song. Their single ‘Snake’ from the album ‘Yolanda’ is out on April 3rd. by @getslouder

The new single ‘Witness To Everything’ by @blackhatsmusic is out now. Thanks to everyone who’s been supporting the track with radio plays, reviews and interviews. It’s been so busy and great fun. by @getslouder
