Innsbruck is pretty Awesome! We ended up booking an apartment at a hostel (awesome decision). It was run by all of these young kids. On arrival, our hostess says “Hey, the guy who cleaned the room today took the key home with him, but good news, he didn’t lock it so you can get in.” Cool. Well, he locked it. They gave us some beers while we waited, cause I didn’t mention earlier, but it’s also a bar. #montagubedxbeers. Dude shows up with the key, we get in, go to a recommended restaurant, and then wander over to the local square where they are having a New Orleans Jazz Fest! What?! Hang for a bit and head back to Montague, where we meet some other Americans from Coeur d’Alene. We talk over beers until 0030 hours. Next day got better. We are an awesome breakfast and took a Gondola to the Innsbruck Nordkette (beautiful views!). Well, it was raining A LOT when we got there. See the video. Waited it out had had some good weather. It was pretty sweet, bad weather included. Afterward, got some good burgers, hit the jazz fest for a bit, then went back to Montagu. It was hopping. The bartender was an Aussie who sounded American and spoke German. The guys manning the turntables were playing great old school music, and the atmosphere was special. Out of everything we did, all of the places we visited, Innsbruck and Budapest were tops. Currently in Zurich, walked around a bit, but leave tomorrow, so taking it easy. #seatofyourpantstravel. by @gheid13

On Wednesday, we woke up early in Vienna to catch a train to Salzburg, where we would have to catch a bus to Berchtesgaden. We had planned a side trip to see the Eagle’s Nest. We are pretty good at “seat of your pants” traveling that would drive a lot of people crazy. We did catch that bud, checked into our hotel, and caught another bus up the mountain to the ticketing area, then another bus to the top. Once there we walked through the tunnel to an elevator to get to the top. The views were spectacular. I did not realize that the entire compound was destroyed so that no one could make a Nazi memorial. It was basically pulverized so that nothing recognizable was left. The flowers and mountain vistas were all I could ask for. We made our way back down to town, had a great dinner, and lounged by the river, just relaxing. Thursday- on to Innsbruck! by @gheid13

Arrived in Vienna on Monday, the crowds were insane, as was the continued heat. We dropped out bags at the hotel, armed with our metro passes, headed to the Belvedere Palace. The upper Belevedere museum was incredible. Saw “the Kiss” and many other Klimt painting. So much to look at. Got officially checked into the hotel and went to the room for a nap. Air conditioning was non existent. Wandered around to find a place to eat. Overall, we are not that impressed with Vienna ( compared to our prior stops in Prague and Budapest). Too crowded, overpriced, and too top end for our tastes. Day 2 we used the metro to get around looking for thrift stores and anything unique. At night we hit the opera at the Musikverein. It was more than expected. So glad we did it, what better place than this historic site to see such great musicians and vocalists perform classic music. Now one to Berchtesgaden for one hectic day. Going to try to rush up the mountain to see Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. by @gheid13

Last 2 days in Budapest. Went to saint lukacs thermal baths (no pictures) . Hit up the pinball museum, rode local transit, took a night river cruise on the Danube. Next(last day) intended to go to a cave tour, but thought better of it due to time, saw st Stephen’s basilica, from outside only as mass was being held (Sunday, go figure). Hit up the Gozsdu market for some local craft shopping. Wandered aimlessly a bit, one of@our favorite things. Took the metro to the parliament and the Shoes on the Danube (very moving ), the Robert Capa museum (a highlight), it’s amazing that one man was at so many important events of the 20th century and documented them. For those of us who say “I was there when…”. See where he was! Then on to Hero’s Square, followed by the Postal Museum (a must visit as my Hero, Thomas Heidkamp, was a Posral carrier. The picture of the uniform of a Hungarian Postal carrier was what he would have worn if we lived here in 1982. On to a local outdoor bar, much needed rest. Tomorrow, on to Vienna! by @gheid13

Day one in Budapest. Quick recap: our apartment (weirdest experience getting a hotel. But turned out to be so awesome. Too surreal to post.). Wandered to the Buda side to the tourist stuff. Went to a church in a cave, found Buda Castle, which is not easy. It’s like they don’t care if you make it there. Took city transit toward the Ruin Bar on the Pest side. On the way found so many cool spots to stop at. Ate lamb burgers and jalapeño poppers at the Karavan area and drank beer that was NOT Pilsner Urquel (seemingly the only thing available in Prague. Side note: we have met so many awesome people along the way l , the Aussies, South Korean girls studying in Prague at Jazz Republic, shop keeper at a trinket shop, Paul from Seattle (I think we almost matched the Aussies count at our hotel bar), Reeve from New York our first night in Budapest, and students from Scotland on vacation at a sweet little outdoor bar. Reeve let us in on the European view of air conditioning. They think it makes you weak! I’m pretty weak, but working on it. by @gheid13

Prague castle and st vitas cathedral… I think Prague wants to kill you by making you climb. We did 8.2 miles and 49 stories. “See this tower”. “Ok” sooo many steps later to get@to the top. Well worth it though. And there was a massive thunder storm , but it provided a show of the gargoyle rain gutters doing their thing! Also worth it. Honey cake does not disappoint. Our goal is to walk, have some beers, and have a good old time! taken in Prague Castle Area St.vitus Cathedral by @gheid13
