Hello! Welcome to my page 👋🫶 Here I post reviews and recommendations from fantasy, romantasy, contemporary romance (and a few other genres if my mood feels it 🤭)

How my reviews work is I’ll do a list of 8 tropes that can be found in the book. I’ll do a mini blurb (written by myself so it’s not too long) and then I’ll lay out my thoughts!

I rate and review all my reads but I will only post books here that I have rated 3⭐️ and above. That’s because books with 3 stars and above are books I would recommend.

There are some books that I personally won’t necessarily love but would still recommend to you guys as I think you may still enjoy them even when I didn’t!

This is a safe space to have different opinions so remember to respect each others views 😘

It’s time to reintroduce myself🤭🫶

Hello all! My name is Emma aka ghostlypeach_ ! This page is primarily for reviews and recs of books with the occasional aesthetically pleasing (hopefully) photo or two 😁

I created this account because I found myself getting so many book recommendations from other bookstagrammers and I wanted to do the same!

I mainly review books from the contemporary romance, fantasy and romantasy genres but sometimes others slip in there too

A lil few fun facts about me:

Book Review: Grace by A. M. Shine - ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

~𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗯~
Grace doesn't remember her birth family. When her birth mother dies, she is called back to her home island, awakening a child devouring evil entity and the community's dark past

~𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀~
This was such a 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘆 atmospheric read that slowly unravelled with each chapter, leaving you guessing until the last page!

You start with the POV of FMC Grace, getting a bit of her background before she heads off to her home island. What follows is POVs from various residents of the island including MMC Father Richard

With each POV, you're 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 into the sinister ongoings on this island which, when you think it can't get worse, it then does

The use of the multiple POVs as the plot goes on was done so well. It made you understand (though absolutely disagree with) choices the residents made and the 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and hopelessness that they feel throughout

The whole book is super 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 and despite living in a city whilst reading this, I felt so spooked out on numerous occasions that I had to put on a gameplay of Tears of the Kingdom to make me feel calmer 😆

I did also love the underlying plot point of "evil spirits do evil things but what about evil humans". One of the most 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 parts of the story wasn't the creepy shadow figure outside but rather the residents and I just love how it was done

My only 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 is that I did feel the pace lull in a few points and the changes in timelines confused me a bit (some characters would recount their memories but it wasn't super clear)

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹, I was left unsettled but satisfied by the end. I always loved reading stories based on folklore and this has definitely left an impression! Though I may be sleeping with the light on tonight 😆

Hello Bookstagram, it's been a few days 🤭 I'm currently abroad in the incredible South Korea for the next few weeks 🤩 It's my first time so the schedule is JAM PACKED but as it should be 😝

I'll be back to posting regularly with lots of reviews prepped for y'all!

My current read is Astarion by T. Kingfisher! As a BG3 girly, I've been super excited to read this so stay tuned for all the thoughts 👀 and ofc I couldn't read without my usual cappuccino to go alongside ☕️

Book Review: Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

An alien invasion forces all survivors into a deadly game broadcast across the galaxy. Caught in his boxers, crocs and with his ex girlfriends cat, Carl and Princess Donut must play the game. And win.

~𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀~
Not my usual but I was heavily 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 by everyone (thank you guys 🙂‍↕️) and I didn't want FOMO so I finally cracked and picked this up

Now, speaking as a predominantly romance and fantasy reader, I can easily say I heckin' LOVED this book. It 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 all the hype its getting 🤩

It's essentially like reading the pov of a human who gets put into a video game (with stats and weapons and a funny and sassy UI). It's 𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 and witty and sometimes a lil dark but the overall tone just hit right 👌

I don't know if my 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 of video games is what made me love this so much but if you don't have any gaming knowledge, don't worry, everything gets explained well

The world felt so 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 and every single character whether monster or human (or cat) felt so fleshed out. It felt like I was actually watching this show or playing it as a game

The pacing is fast with a little lull in the middle but I liked that as it 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗱 me to just enjoy it all and let things marinate in my head 🤭

I actually loved MMC Carl and of course the amazing Princess Donut. Carl has his flaws for sure but that made him so 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 to read. HRH Donut can do no wrong and every single thing she did or said had me in bits

Also the lil drawings at the start of some chapters of the monsters were such a 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 touch 😍

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹, I loved it. It's addictive, funny, action packed and so unique and a welcomed surprise and new favourite. Now time to binge the rest 🙂‍↕️

Book Review: Grim Tidings by B. K. Borison - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reaper Darcy is tired of death. She wants to save someone this time. Which should be easy with angel Gabriel, but he doesn't trust her. Can Darcy save a soul or will Gabriel get in the way?

~𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀~
I'll be honest - this one got me. And got me good (don't ask me how many times I 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 though 😭)

I mean firstly, this book has 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. A sassy grim reaper, an equally sassy bartending guardian with tattoos, banter filled with sexual tension, characters with depth, all the emotions, wound tending and yearning?! What a combo 🙂‍↕️

And then the overall message of the book hit my soul. Like how FMC Darcy just wants to belong and live a human life 😭 She just felt so 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 and every single thing she felt I was feeling alongside her 😭

And then we have MMC Gabriel who shoulders so much and the pressure he puts on himself to be the protector... and both of their perspectives on life and death... it all 𝗵𝗶𝘁 and hit hard 😭

The plot was 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿 focused which was the best decision because it allowed readers to feel so much through the characters with nothing else influencing it

And then the 𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲?! I was on the edge of my seat. It felt so real and so full of depth, I think I fell in love with them 🥺 (he also braids her hair at one point 😭)

Also y'all that tequila scene?! I don't think I even breathed oh my god 😱 The 𝗵𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 scene goddamn you sexy angel and your "lick sip suck" 😮‍💨

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹, I loved it. Truly a brilliant book. It gets you in the feels but it is so worth it 🥺💜 One of my fav romances in a while 🤩

Book Review: Big Bad Wolf by Laurie Gilmore - ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

Ruby cannot stay away from new comer Rafe, who happens to arrive at the same time she starts to see wolves in the forest who seem to be watching her.

~𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀~
I always know what I'm getting with a Laurie Gilmore book and can easily say this one is the 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿 as her contemporary romance books in the Dream Harbour series 🙂‍↕️

It was great to see Laurie take on a paranormal small town romance. The aspects of the 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 and the introduction to all the characters made everything feel very real

The romance was very insta love / lust with FMC Ruby and MMC Rafe but with the added flavor of ✨️werewolves✨️ (though I would argue these were more like shifters as they don't follow the usual werewolf rules). Safe to say it was a 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, wasn't clutching my pearls but did enjoy!

There is a plot but its 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴, just sort of in the background to assist the characters in their developing relationship

It's not the strongest paranormal small town romance in the slightest but I can't lie, I really 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻. It flows and it's easy to read with a predictable plot and romance and sometimes that's what you need 🙂‍↕️

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹, I enjoyed it but I think going in with no expectations is what helped? I will definitely continue the series as I am very intrigued for Rafe's younger brother Theo to be the MMC in book 2 🤭

📚 August Reading Wrap Up and Crumbs📚

Finally, we are in the -ber months! Bring me hoodie season with pumpkin spice lattes, fallen leaves and cooler temperatures please 😍 I tend to not do seasonal reads but I am really in my autumnal vibes so maybe I will try this year 👀

🧡 I finished three series and miss them all 🥹
🧡 I finished my first ever audio book (Quicksilver) and have decided they are not for me 😆

🎶 saw Ariana Grande for the first time - easily one of the best concerts I've ever been to
🎭 got dragged to Hamilton to see Leslie Odom Jr with bestie @booksbymmiria - I was in the room where it happened
💒 went to a wedding and danced all night
👽 watched the Alien films for the first time (I will never look at alien romance the same)

Book Review: Serenity Falls by C. J. Tudor - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After the passing of his mother, Dan and his daughter Sadie are told they are now the proud owners of a house in Serenity Falls; an idyllic place where everyone is happy and no crime happens, only to find a dead body in their pool.

~𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀~
The first time I read CJ Tudor was 8 years ago and I became 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 🤩 there's something about the way CJ writes that just hits and this book is no different

This book is soooo 𝘂𝗻𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. From the get go it grabs you and with its constant pacing, you feel like you're on this steady conveyorbelt that you never want to get off

I found myself going "𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿" to the point where I had been reading for 2 hours and hadn't even noticed 😆

The story overall is super 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. Even though I had a rough idea of what was going on, I loved each puzzle piece being revealed

I feel like the overarching idea of a really famous and beloved movie director making a "perfect town" for residents gave a Walt Disney-esq feel which just adds a whole other level of 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 to the book with that sort of familiarity

The 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 was really clever as well. You've got the two MCs - Dan and his daughter Sadie - plus a few different POVs of the "victims". Each POV added another layer of that unsettling feeling to the book and gave more life to the story that really helped me get absorbed into the world!

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹, I thoroughly enjoyed it and is one I recommend!

Book Review: The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

With her friends rumoured to be dead, Sybil is taken by King Benedict. In a plot to show his new power, Benedict hosts a tournament, leaving Sybil trying to stop history from repeating. And with the help of a Knave with no memory, can she destroy the kingdom's faith?

~𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀~
Waiting for this book has felt like a lifetime. But now that it's here I can easily and happily say that it was worth the wait. The 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 worthy of this fantastic duology.

The second this book was in my clutches, I could 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻. It felt like coming home 🥹

The book follows a similar pattern to The Knight and the Moth but with a different spin, forcing you to see each character and hamlet in a new light. It's such a fantastic way to tell the conclusion and will have you 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 all that you thought you knew 👀

The characters are all as 𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 as before (Bartholomew and his new outfit being the most iconic thing I've ever read!)

And if you thought you couldn't 𝘀𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗻 harder over Rory and Sybil... well... hold onto your pearls 🤭 I don't want to give anything away but my goodness does the tension ramp up😍

I just don't think I'll ever be able to put into words just how much I enjoyed this book. I feel like I was went on this journey alongside these characters and now I've come back to the real world, I feel like 𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗲 in those pages 😭

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹, this was everything that I wanted and I know those who loved book 1 will feel happy and bittersweet and satisfied with this conclusion. What a story. To those who have read book 1, please pick this up - it will not leave you disappointed. And to those who haven't started their journey into the Stonewater Kingdom yet, what are you waiting for Bartholomew? 🦋⚔️🌕
