This is a classic English translation, by Eleanor Marx-Aveling, daughter of Karl Marx. Last week when I saw this in a bookstore at a dirt cheap price I took it without much thought, but after reading more about different attempts of translations over the years, I am tempted to read Lydia Davis' translation, which, many feels, comes closest to capture the rhythmic precision of Flaubert's sentences. by @ghostofmodernity

I finished the first part a month ago. I have no idea about what's going on in this book. Yet, I can't just seem to stop thinking about it. Solvej Balle has rocked my world, and suspended the sense of linearity associated with the passing of time. It's the 18th of November for me for ever. The date also holds a special significance, because four years ago on this exact date I met a wonderful person who's my partner now.
