IIf you only take away one thing from me: invest in the details (or more bluntly, don’t keep out on the important stuff).They may be the smallest items in a room, but they make the biggest difference, particularly if you use them every day. It’s the same logic as wearing a dress from Nordstrom Rack or Amazon, but pairing it with a kick-ass pair of designer heels. The gorgeous shoes don’t just get noticed… they make everything else look high-end too, and pull the whole outfit together.This little brass toggle switch by Forbes & Lomax is proof of that. It’s not load-bearing. It’s not screaming for attention. But somehow, unsuspectingly, it becomes the star of the room, and everything nearby seems to rise to meet it. This plain ivory wall? This…this is the dream job behind the dream job.Somewhere over who-knows-where, on a flight I genuinely can’t remember, with one kid asleep on me and another glued to the window. This is who I’m doing all of this for.People ask me all the time how I balance running a design studio with being a hands-on mom to these two. The truth is, I don’t really separate them. Every kitchen I design, every room I plan, I’m thinking about the families who are going to actually live in it…the spilled milk, homework at the counter, little sauce-covered handprints everywhere. That’s my purpose.And when I’m designing for clients without kids? I’m living a little vicariously through them to tell you the truth! Ivory couches….what I wouldn’t give for an ivory couch 😂. Countertops that stay white! At the end of the day, this is who and what I’m building a life around. My littles who love to be my assistants, who adore design as much as I do and have genuinely stellar taste. Oh baby, is this one a stunner! I have a lot to say about this one, so buckle up, baby…The old kitchen had drab gray-blue cabinetry and a ceiling that just wasn’t doing it any favors. We refinished the ceiling in warm reclaimed oak, swapped in a rich, custom-built cabinetry palette, and completely reimagined the layout and the entire aesthetic to reflect how my clients live and who they are, and they’re awesome, by the way. The room next door used to be too small to really serve any purpose, it just sat there, unused. We connected it to the kitchen with a new arched doorway, turned it into a genuinely useful breakfast nook, and added a breakfast bar between the two spaces.The result feels Cotswolds-inspired through and through, like an heirloom English shaker kitchen that’s always been here. Where it was once dark and lonely, the sun now brightens the entire space. Brass mesh inset into the cabinetry. Solid walnut countertop, shelves, and cabinetry doors. Solid brass cabinet hardware from the UK. A gorgeous glazed Zellige tile backsplash. An antique Turkish rug grounds it all over checkered terra-cotta tile.The lighting throughout is all from DeVol Kitchens in the UK, and it’s honestly what makes this room. Every fixture was chosen to feel collected over time rather than installed all at once.Custom designed by me, custom built by an incredible artisan. The key to a door isn’t in its lock🔒, but in its stain color. A good solid wood door does the heavy lifting here… it’s what gives an entry that sense of weight and permanence, versus something that reads flimsy or builder-grade.We also swapped the original galvanized metal fixture for this antique brass gooseneck sconce, and it completely elevated the exterior.Sometimes one fixture redefines the whole entry.#LuxuryInteriors #NashvilleInteriorDesigner #InteriorDesign #DoorDetails #OldWorldCharm by @ghousedesignco

There’s nothing that brings me more joy than watching a room come together exactly the way I pictured it. I just like things to be beautiful and feel good — call it type A, call it whatever you want, I’ll die on the hill that the smallest decisions make the biggest difference. Details are my jam. Layered like botanicals, fluttering at different heights, somewhere between petals and fairy wings — I chose these lights for this breakfast room specifically because I wanted movement in the space. Visited the project site today to see these wallpaper options in the actual environment where they may live — a sample book and an actual room in real light are two very different things. Not the glamorous part of the job: walking a two-by-four like a tightrope just to get into a room, leaving with a fresh coat of drywall dust as a souvenir. Sometimes design is 10% vision, 90% getting someone else to see it too.I gave them my vision for this hallway: a deep, moody hue that would transform the whole space. They weren’t sold. “Won’t that close it in?” I explained that’s not actually how it works — done right, dark can open a space up rather than shrink it. They wanted time to sit with it. A few weeks later, they came back with an okay, go for it.Now this hallway is the showstopper of the home — the centerpiece everyone stops in front of before they even make it further inside.
