Hey @florencepugh, we heard about Sir Ian’s reaction to learning you’ve never done a play. We’d like to help you remedy that. We are formally inviting you to join the cast of Gi60 NYC 2026. It’s a bit last-minute, we know, but we happen to specialize in minutes. Our festival performs 50 one-minute plays in an hour. You may not catch up to Sir Ian’s record, but it’ll be a hell of a running start. Submissions come from all over the world, from well-established playwrights and brand new ones. Our all-volunteer organization’s ongoing mission for the past twenty two years has been, and continues to be, to provide opportunities for playwrights and theatrical artists, and to support the next generation of storytellers. And hey, as your first theatrical adventure, that’s you! A portion of our festival’s proceeds each year go towards the Michael Flanagan and Christopher Thomasson Fellowships, which are awarded each year by @thetanknyc to support early-career theatre artists in creating new work. Sponsored by @bkone_productions, and held at their home in Industry City, we’re bringing you an improv show with food, drinks, a silent auction featuring NYC-based artists, and a competition to appoint our new mascot(s): 📅 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026 🕕 Doors open at 6:45pm / Show starts at 7:00pm 📍 brooklynONE - Industry City Bldg 5, 51 35th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232 🎟️ $15 per person (cash or Venmo) at the door - RSVPs required! 25 years ago I was 11 I was on the R train, around Cortlandt St, on my way to Penn Station. We were in the process of moving to the city from upstate and we were heading back to get the last load of things. The R train froze in between stops for an excruciatingly long time, but we were used to that. Just normal subway troubles. When we finally made it to Penn, huge crowds were gathered around the TVs in the Hudson Newses scattered around the terminal. I distinctly remember my mom and I wondering what everyone was watching but ultimately, being the tired, still-on-summer-time, not-at-all-morning-person child I was, I suggested we just get on our train without finding out. My mother the journalist overheard conversations once our train had left the city, and through interviews with other passengers, choppy phone calls, and probably one too many cafe car hot dogs, we learned what all those people were watching at the station. We also learned that we were on the last train out before they shut the depots and airports. When we returned to the city a couple weeks later we got out of the train, and just like the alternate-universe Empire State Building in Mandelas, the towers were just...gone. Unlike the alternate-universe - we will #neverforget. Plays like Mandelas are what makes Gi60 such a special theatre festival. So much emotion and history can be captured in 60 seconds.
