“Lazos de parentesco, 2023” ya casi cumple tres años de estar exhibida como parte de la 3ª rotación de Xaltilolli @ccutxalti en el Centro Cultural Universitario Tlatelolco de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).Si están en la Ciudad de México dénse una vueltita. Estará en sala hasta noviembre de este año.

El pueblo Kota, que asciende a unos 78.000 habitantes, ocupa la parte oriental de Gabón y se extiende hasta la República Democrática del Congo. El culto ancestral constituía el núcleo de su vida religiosa y social. Los relicarios de este tipo se encuentran entre los objetos sagrados utilizados por la etnia Kota dedicados a honrar a los antepasados con el fin de obtener su buena voluntad. Estas figuras guardianas protegen las reliquias que unen a los vivos con los muertos. El adorno de aleación de latón y cobre, material significa riqueza y prestigio; También se asocia con la luz del día y puede haberse aplicado a las figuras para fortalecer sus defensas contra los intrusos de la noche, cuando se cree que las fuerzas del mal son más fuertes. “La serie fotográfica aquí presente, muestra antiguos retratos de nanas de crianza o amas de leche negras sosteniendo a bebés blancos. Los bebés, han sido sustituidos por relicarios de Kota de Gabón, África, que en este caso buscan hacer referencia a a ancestralidad africana que se ha perdido. La obra cuestiona algunas contradicciones sobre cómo eran vistas y representadas las mujeres negras por los aristócratas blancos, ya que al mismo tiempo que las privaban de su humanidad y feminidad, eran consideradas como las únicas dignas de amamantar a su hijos blancos, historia que se ha repetido por todo el continente americano.

Les comparto la cuarta entrega de 16 artistas que se sumaron a la muestra MATERNAR DESMATERNAR, exhibiéndose hasta el 26 de octubre en Centro Cultural de España Tegucigalpa.

Son testimonios que evocan el cuidado a otros cuerpos; la pérdida; de la decisión de no criar; la herencia familiar; rituales que acompañan el crecimiento o de las marcas que deja el abandono.
Cada artista se aproxima a estas experiencias desde un lugar distinto. Al encontrarse, las obras comienzan a tocarse: una madre nodriza dialoga con un duelo perinatal; una ceremonia de pubertad con un árbol genealógico; la decisión de no maternar con la experiencia del abandono; el recuerdo.

Giana De Dier es una artista contemporánea cuyos collages se enfocan en las
experiencias y herencia de las personas afrocaribeñas que migraron a Panamá
durante la construcción del Canal a principios del siglo XX. Su obra pone especial
énfasis en las experiencias de las mujeres afrocaribeñas, destacando las formas en
que formaron relaciones y construyeron comunidades. Sus collages exploran y
reimaginan las posibilidades de lo que podría estar ausente en los archivos
fotográficos e históricos. También desafía los silencios en narrativas históricas,

Wall of Fame

It's been a year since our CEO's portrait was unveiled on the Wall of Fame at the @nationalportraitgallery in London funded by @chanelofficial

23 photomontage portraits in the Artists First: Contemporary Perspectives of Portraiture were featured by artist Giana De Dier of contemporary changemakers from the UK’s African and Caribbean diaspora.

The exhibition ran for 12 months ending last month (August 2026).
