An Update on My Sister’s Journey

To everyone who has donated, shared our fundraiser, sent prayers, or reached out with words of encouragement thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, our family is deeply grateful for the incredible kindness and generosity you have shown us. Thanks to your support, we have already raised a significant amount toward my sister’s medical expenses, and it has lifted a tremendous burden during one of the most difficult times of our lives. One day, when things are a little lighter, I hope to personally thank each and every one of you. Your compassion has reminded us that we are not facing this alone.

I also wanted to share an important update on my sister’s condition.

When we first shared her story, the initial diagnosis suggested leukemia. Since then, she has undergone additional testing, including a final pathology review. Unfortunately, the diagnosis has changed. She has now been diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

This has been devastating news for our family. Because of the rarity of this cancer and how it has already affected her body, her medical team has explained that the focus of treatment is now palliative chemotherapy. While the goal is to slow the progression of the disease, manage symptoms, and give her the best possible quality of life, we continue to hope for every positive outcome along the way.

Although the diagnosis has changed, one thing remains the same: we will continue to fight alongside her every single day. The road ahead is uncertain, but your support has given us the strength to keep going.

Every act of kindness, no matter how big or small, helps our family focus on what matters most: being there for her throughout this journey.

Just a month ago, my sister was healthy, happy, and living life normally. None of us could have imagined how quickly everything would change.

About two weeks ago, she began showing unusual signs and symptoms that prompted us to seek medical attention. After undergoing multiple tests and consultations, we received devastating news: she has been diagnosed with Leukemia.

The diagnosis came as a complete shock to our family. The cancer cells are aggressive, and her doctors have advised that treatment must begin as soon as possible to give her the best chance of recovery. She will need to undergo chemotherapy and, in the near future a bone marrow transplant as part of her treatment journey.

While our family is committed to doing everything we can to support her, the financial burden has become overwhelming. The estimated cost of her treatment and related medical expenses is approximately PHP 6 million. This was completely unexpected, and unfortunately, we are not financially prepared for expenses of this magnitude.

With humility and hope, we are reaching out to ask for help. Our goal is to raise as much as we can to help cover the immediate and ongoing medical expenses that lie ahead.

My sister is my only sibling, and I love her dearly. Watching her face this battle has been one of the most difficult experiences of our lives. We are determined to fight alongside her, but we cannot do it alone.

27 ~ the year I realized how deeply loved, cherished, and supported I am. ◡̈

So much has happened this year, and at times it has felt overwhelming. I’m not entirely happy, nor entirely sad, but I feel seen. This year reminded me that grace exists for a reason.

The past few months have been difficult to navigate, but my wish remains the same. I’m grateful for the friends who stayed, the people who showed up, and everyone who made time and effort to remind me that I am valued.
