Island Flora 60x40 Inspired by my annual residency at Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island, where nature, colour and the changing landscape find their way into my work. Organic forms and expressive marks come together in this layered abstract interpretation of the island. Thank you to everyone who ventured out for our Fall Social this past weekend! 🎃🍂 This year’s event was a sun filled afternoon with multiple artists including Johanna Chambers, @nawangtxomo and @jespollard opening their studios to the public, chatting with guests and demonstrating their practices; the roof top honey harvest led by @julianganton, numerous keen pumpkin carvers, some making their very first jack-o-lantern; and film and horror fans alike gathering in the Fireplace Room for @lookacrossthewaterfilm, a horror film that was shot almost entirely at the Centre and it’s surrounding environment. We look forward to future film screenings, open studios and other opportunities to gather community at Gibraltar Point. by @gibraltarpointto

Come hang out with Lisa Myers, myself, and Ma-nee Chacaby this March for the second Iteration of Where the Water Meets artist residency at Gibraltar point Art centre! Application in bio! Where the Water Meets- Iteration 2 is a week-long, land-based residency for Indigenous artists who identify as two-spirit, trans, queer, non-binary, or otherwise gender-diverse. The residency will take place from March 29 to April 5, 2027 at Mnisiing—colonially known as Gibraltar Point—on the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. The shoreline is central to the conceptual grounding of the program: the place where land and water meet is a site of convergence, transition, and renewed relationship. This guiding metaphor invites participants to bring forward Nation-specific teachings about water and weave them into their creative processes and daily reflections. Open to Indigenous artists at all stages of practice and across all disciplines, the residency embraces an expansive Indigenous feminist understanding of creative and cultural work. The residency prioritizes rest, reflection, and relationality rather than demanding finished works or performances. Participants are supported to move at their own pace, following intuition, cultural knowledge, curiosity, or emergent creative directions. A central aspect of the residency is the presence of Elder Ma-Nee Chacaby, who will serve as the program’s Two-Spirit Elder-in-Residence. Ma-Nee is a respected storyteller, knowledge keeper, author, and activist whose teachings have been integral to Two-Spirit resurgence. She will offer guidance, participate in informal conversations, and meet with participants collectively and individually. Her presence anchors the program in intergenerational knowledge. Facilitation of the program will be led by program manager Anne Riley (Dene, Fort Nelson First Nation) and Lisa Myers (Beausoleil First Nation). Anne’s multidisciplinary practice explores land-based interventions rooted in Dene feminist praxis. Lisa’s artistic and curatorial work integrates food, plants, place, and participatory processes Application https://forms.gle/ACSVZmewgMndotqf7 by @gibraltarpointto
Plein Air week Toronto Island with my “Islander Friends,” no expectations just fun playing with paint. I was drawn to the Willow Trees. Memories of my youth laughing and running beneath them, the branches dancing against my body. True joy. 💚 Thank you @gibraltarpointto for a fabulous week! ☀ #livingmyjoy #lesbianartist #pleinairpainting by @gibraltarpointto

we are so back baby 🙃 open call for “The Name Of” 2027 is live now, submissions close on October 30th. Thrilled to be bringing on 2026 alumni @adventureinthelittlethings as our visiting artist mentor, and continuing our collaboration with @orchidcontemporary for a confirmed exhibition fall 2027. The Name Of is a one week residency from March 22nd-29th 2027 held at Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts, facilitated by multidisciplinary artist Maddie Alexander (They/He). This residency is for trans* artists, inclusive of all who fall under the gender diverse, 2 Spirit, Intersex, GNC, or Non-Binary experience. The intention of this residency is to foster a focused space for trans* artists to collaborate, share research, expand your networks, and nurture space to dig into your practice in new and explorative ways. by @gibraltarpointto
The Gibraltar Point Community and friends are invited to join us for this year’s Fall Social on Sunday, October 18, 2026, 3-7 PM. This month we will gather for some festival fall fun at the Centre, including pumpkin carving, an open house, honey tasting and a screening of Look Across The Water. Written and directed by Simon Borer, Look Across The Water is a raw, handmade psychological horror feature about grief, loyalty, and the places that become strange after dark. Film screening begins at 5 PM in the Fireplace Room and is followed by a short Q&A. Refreshments available onsite. Stay tuned for island shuttle bus details. “My name is Cassandra Myers (they/she/he), I’m an award-winning multi-disciplinary artist who uses poetry as the needle eye I thread my practise through. While at Gibraltar, I was completing my first book of poetry Survivor Animalia, detailing kalidescopic approaches to justice after sexual violence through the lens of the adaptive strategies of non-human beings. Gibraltar offers me a biome of access to water, artistic community, and a crip futurity that is unparalled in Toronto, completing both my book and swimming across the entire length of the island in prep for my performance art project of long-distance swimming as a disabled choreography. Does it get any better than that?” Follow Cassandra’s book release journey (March 2027) and their training to swim across Lake Ontario as someone living with chronic pain at @cass.myers.poetry and https://www.cassmyers.com/ by @gibraltarpointto
