I am giving a keynote talk at Victoria & Albert Museum @vamuseum as part of London Design Festival’s thought leadership programme with the brilliant @yurisuzukilondon and Victoria Brooke next Wednesday 20 September at the @l_d_f_official

Another one to add to the collection picked up this summer in Valencia…

Luis Giner Valls (1900 - 1995)

Luis Giner Valls was a Valencian Impressionist, Postwar and Contemporary painter, famously mentored by Spanish master Joaquín Sorolla.

He is considered one of the most important artists of the Godella School first exhibiting in 1920. He won various national & international prizes achiveping significant notoriety in 1950’s and 60’s.

Pre 1920 he was a decorator of fans.

His work is represented in the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia and Ministry of Culture of Madrid.

Given that @elizabeth.truss.mp and @conservatives budget fuck up just cost this country £30 billion and the UK spends £48.6 billion on arms each year it’s pitiful that they choose to overlook the value of UK cultural exports of world class institutions like @englishnationalopera . France invests €4 billion annually into culture. Despite opera’s problems as a genre I am must confess that seeing Satygraha by Philip Glass sung by Christopher Keene in 2017 at ENO was the single greatest musical experience of my life. The prospect of losing ENO is a tradgrdy. The sooner this shortsighted Tory muppet show sinks the better. Resist cultural vandalism now ⚰️. This is about way more than just the ENO. I'm delighted to be honouree host for this year's Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art Gala in New York , on November 7th, honoring the legacies of Margaret Rose Vendryes, Ph.D and @honeydijon . Join me in supporting the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, the only contemporary art museum in the world dedicated to LGBTQIA+ art and artists.

I’m specifically attending to honour Honey Dijon, a friend, an ally, a musical comrade and and all round inspiration.

From Chicago to NYC to Berlin and around the world – Honey Dijon is blazing trails; moving through the world forefronting imagination and possibility, offering portals to fresh ways of seeing and being. Honey’s lifetime of boundary breaking in music, fashion, and activism embodies the Leslie-Lohman guiding values of queer liberation, creativity, and joy. Let’s face it, Honey will always be hometown NY. She is a one woman revolution in action.

I was invited by lead artist, activist and composer @stephanie_singer_ to collaborate and consult on her project Violet Disruption at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. The project had an early R&D period with @royaloperahouse and @nationalballetcanada to develop a 5-minute pilot experience and subsequently I was invited to join the creative team shortly after. I have worked to develop many aspects of the project with Steph since the project was awarded an Opera Beyond prize in November 2021. The show premieres in Finland on 25th November 2022. taken in Kansallisooppera - Finnish National Opera by @gideon_berger_studio

I was both composer and creative director for the MAN[or]GOD production, choreographed by @joy_alpuerto_ritter & @akramkhancompany . I was scoring for the contemporary dance piece featuring @mavin_khoo, the lead dancer and subject. The show and subsequently the score explored the space between spirituality, dance and London’s nightlife underworld of the '90s. I had the privilege to with Palestinian classical violinist @akramvio and @Hariraam Tingyuan Lam @raaghari @ninaharriesbass and vocalist @chitra_poornima

A quote I gave for Resident Advisor reads:

Writing the music for MAN[or]GOD has taken me on journey that is linked both philosophically and geographically to the narrative it is in support of. The show explores the space between spirituality, dance and London’s nightlife underworld of the 90’s. Because I am in dual roles on this project, acting as both creative director and composer, it’s my job to interrogate and push the narrative as well as write the music that the storytelling is set to. The South Asian heritage of artistic director and lead dancer Mavin Khoo has been the central point of reference for this score and has enabled me to commission several insanely talented classical musicians to feature in the electronic music I’ve written. Ive found a wildly exciting sonic aesthetic somewhere between Malaysian Gamelan, Indian Classical, downstairs at Berghain on a Monday morning. As difficult as that sounds on paper it’s actually shaping up to be something I’m really proud of. The fact that the whole thing takes place at the foot of a towering soundsystem gives us the power to go to tell this story with real clarity. I worked with @herculesandloveaffair & @anohni on the creative development of a graphic identity for their In Amber project. After an extensive R&D period we settled on an approach. As art director I headed up a team of digital artists and studios to create a series of still and moving images for the forthcoming series of releases. Working with Mike Wilson and @kristin_ko we created a series of digital landscapes and sculpted a standing stone loosely modelled on a 3D scan of an ancient pagan standing stone in the Scottish Highlands. The shroud was then built and animated independently. We used Cinema 4D, Redshift, Marvellous Designer, Houdini, After Effects. In addition to art direction I also acted in a consulting capacity for album remixes. I worked on the graphic design with deliciously talented @martinperrydesigns and @wilkerton . One of my proposed remix collaborations with @pangaea_dj came into fruition. taken in Deptford SE8 by @gideon_berger_studio
