Arizona Lottery officials say a Powerball ticket worth $200,000 was sold at the Fry’s Food Store at 3261 E. Pecos Road, near Higley Road in Gilbert.

The ticket won the game’s $50,000 prize and carried the 4x Power Play multiplier, raising the payout to $200,000. The Sept. 30 winning numbers were 4, 6, 23, 33 and 44, with Powerball 13.

This is a separate win from the $323,000 Fantasy 5 ticket Gilbert Pulse covered at the same Fry’s in July.

Would you check an old ticket if you bought one at this Fry’s?

The Town of Gilbert says it is testing the water at Freestone Park after 11 ducks died during the drawdown of the park's two interconnected lakes. The exact cause remains unconfirmed; officials and rescuers have reported suspected avian botulism.

Rescuers have recovered 36 waterfowl and four turtles. Ten rescued ducks were sick, and crews were continuing to collect and relocate turtles as the south lake drained.

This is a follow-up to Gilbert Pulse's Sept. 1 report on the wildlife relocation. The $8.3 million rehabilitation project includes replacing the lake liners and making other repairs, with completion expected next spring.

What would you like Gilbert to change before the next park-lake renovation?

Gilbert Town Council voted 5-2 on Sept. 15 to approve Headwaters Gilbert, a 181-unit apartment project for residents 55 and older. This is the final-decision follow-up to Gilbert Pulse's Sept. 14 preview of the Council vote.

The approval covers a vacant 6.37-acre parcel at 950 S. Gilbert Road in Gilbert Town Square. Council adopted Resolution 4691 and Ordinance 2998, changing the land-use classification from General Commercial to Residential >25–50 dwelling units per acre and rezoning the site from Shopping Center to Multi-Family/High.

The development plan calls for 100 one-bedroom and 81 two-bedroom apartments in two four-story buildings, with a clubhouse between them. Councilmembers Bobbi Buchli and Jim Torgeson cast the two dissenting votes.

What do you think of the approved plan for this vacant Town Square parcel?

Clare House Social plans to open its 6,000-square-foot restaurant space in late November at 309 N. Gilbert Road, according to owner Nathan Ares. The opening target was reported Sept. 12.

The project brings together the former Prep & Pastry space and the Clare House, a 1918 cottage that previously housed Bergies Coffee Roast House. The kitchen is planned around American fare, with cocktails, beer and wine at the bar.

A patio will overlook an outdoor gathering yard with a walk-up window, TVs and a pergola. That outdoor portion is expected to follow in early 2027.

Gilbert Town Council rejected the 121-unit Residences at the Reserve plan on Sept. 15. The motion to approve failed 3-4, so Resolution 4690 and Ordinance 2997 were not adopted. This is the final decision on the proposal Gilbert Pulse previously covered as it moved through continuances and hearings.

The case covered about 4.9 vacant acres southeast of Gilbert and Germann roads. It would have changed the General Plan designation from General Office to Residential 14–25 dwelling units per acre and rezoned the land from Business Park to Multi-Family Medium.

Town staff recommended approval, but the proposal had drawn opposition from residents whose Chandler neighborhood borders the parcel. Mayor Scott Anderson and Councilmembers Kenny Buckland and Yung Koprowski cast the three yes votes; the other four Council members voted no.

What should the vacant parcel become now?

Gilbert Town Council approved a $55,651,907 construction contract for Phase 2 of Gilbert Regional Park on Sept. 15. It is a follow-up to the earlier pause of the project while the town reviewed its long-term financial priorities.

The contract is the second of three guaranteed-maximum-price packages for the 107-acre Phase 2 expansion south of the existing park at Higley and Queen Creek roads. It funds a six-field youth-softball complex, along with ramadas, sidewalks, parking and shade structures.

The town's agenda identified Haydon Companies as the contractor. A third Phase 2 package, estimated at $120 million, is anticipated for consideration this winter; the town projects the full Phase 2 opening for July 2028.

What would you most want to see built next at Gilbert Regional Park?
