It's a very dreary day, but my flowering crab is blooming, & there are times I just can't keep my mouth shut. This is one of them. I see outrage over the trauma that Erika Kirk must have suffered as a guest at the WHCD. What about our children each time there is yet another school shooting? And there were an overabundance of crickets in the WH when the Hortmans were assassinated in MN. Saturday also happened to be the one year anniversary of the death of Virginia Roberts Giuffre. After having just read Nobody's Girl, I'm not missing the irony of this. And finally, kudos to Norah O'Donnell for maintaining her composure while being insulted & berated during the 60 Minutes interview & for her response, "Oh, you think he was referring to you?" by @gilby53

What is it they say? It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. We have had plans for this little getaway for a long time. We had planned to snowshoe, but the temperature never got above zero. As a matter of fact, we had some of the coldest weather we have had in a decade. The plan was to go off grid, but suddenly a video came across our phones of a shooting on Eat Street in South Minneapolis. We listened intently to HCR & when she choked up, everything changed. I am so thankful to have been able to spend this time in the company of a good friend. I took these pictures on my way home to remind me that there is still beauty & goodness to be found, although right now that can be hard to remember. I also lit a candle in the snow. It's the same candle I lit at Mom's church in her memory on All Saints' Day. I know she'd approve. by @gilby53

It's not a Peace Prize, but I'd be willing to donate my high school Senior English Award, my Regina Legacy Award, my years of service pin, & my Grandma Rocks button if they would help the cause. Heck, I'd even throw in my Janel McCarville commemorative bobble head pin. by @gilby53

OK, I may be a little obsessed, but it's been a very wintery winter.

She came back for her usual visit today, but she was definitely spooked. I talked to her & calmed her down, but I'm very concerned she can't find safe haven with all the leaves off the trees. by @gilby53

This is my favorite Veteran's Day photo. My father sailed into New York Harbor aboard the U.S.S. Hermitage, which left Le Havre, France, on July 25, 1945. This was his view of the Statue of Liberty. He was home from the war.🇺🇲 by @gilby53

"The gift of aging is something we don’t always recognize while we’re young. We spend so much time worrying about the lines on our faces, the gray in our hair, or the slower steps we take — that we forget what they truly mean.

Wrinkles aren’t flaws; they’re proof that we’ve smiled, laughed, and cried through a lifetime of moments. Gray hair isn’t something to hide; it’s a crown of wisdom earned through years of experience. Slower steps don’t mean weakness; they mean we’ve walked far enough to know that life isn’t a race, it’s a journey.

The hardest part of growing older is saying goodbye to certain chapters — the noise of children running through the house, the energy of youth, the people we’ve loved who are no longer here. But the beauty of aging is realizing how rich those chapters were, and how much love we still carry forward.

Aging is not losing time — it is gaining perspective. It is the privilege of seeing the seasons change, of watching children grow into parents, and of knowing that your presence has shaped lives in ways that will last long after you’re gone.

The truth is, not everyone gets the gift of aging. Every birthday is not a burden, but a blessing. Every year is another chance to love, to laugh, and to leave behind a legacy of kindness." by @gilby53
