How to learn to sense depth in a tattoo?
⠀
First of all, remember that there’s no exact, universal number in millimeters that would be ideal for every client, as everyone’s skin thickness and body type are different!
⠀
And even if such a number existed, how would you measure it during the process?
⠀
Here’s what you definitely need to focus on during your work:
⠀
1. The shade of the outline. It shouldn’t be blue (too deep) or too faded (working on the epidermis), but a good shade of black (assuming you’re working with black pigment).
⠀
2. The feel in your hand. Or the feedback from the skin into the needle. And yes, this skill needs to be learned, and it comes with experience.
But! This exercise, which I give in the video, can help speed up, or rather, better understand, this point. ⠀
At low voltage, you learn to feel that same feedback better. Even with thin needles (and if you’ve worked with them before, you know exactly how difficult it is to “feel depth” with these needles).
⠀
3. The sound of the machine. But this is more applicable to thick needles. Because when working with thin needles, you’re unlikely to notice much of a difference in the sound of the machine depending on the depth of the puncture.
⠀
Try incorporating this exercise into your practice, and share your impressions. I’d love your feedback 🧡

How much should a tattoo cost?
I urge you to accurately assess the work of all artists and their clients!
⠀
Let’s put aside impostor syndrome and the fear of naming a “high” price just to get a client.
⠀
Fine tattoos are tattoos just like any other. And they also have their own enormous challenges, which artists learn to overcome over the years!
⠀
Believe me, drawing a perfectly even and consistent line is much more difficult with a fine needle. And any artist will tell you this.
⠀
When evaluating any artist’s services, please focus not on the amount of material used, but on the quality, meticulousness of the work, and competence—after all, these criteria can’t be bought, they must be developed through years of practice.
⠀
I wish you all beautiful tattoos and love for yourself and your body.
