I am showing these Polyphoto pictures of me and my brother Charlie again- taken before WW11- as he lived from November 8th 1935 to July 4th 2015. He was a supportive elder brother and I find myself wondering if I ever thanked him properly- so thank him NOW! by @gillianwarephoto

In these worldwide troubled times, we are all in need of courage, faith and joy. I found that today on a local walk through this little fernleaf yarrow flower, spilling out of a neighbouring garden, shining so brightly and bringing so much joy. by @gillianwarephoto

Painted Eucalyptus in The Huntington Gardens at the edge of the Jungle, from May 2023. Circumstances having prevented me from visiting the Gardens for longer than usual, it gave me pleasure to be reminded of the joy they endlessly give me. @thehuntingtonlibrary by @gillianwarephoto

Here May is Jacaranda blossom time. We are fortunate to have a cross street dedicated to the trees- the blooming slowly began a few weeks ago, and has now reached its peak with glorious, glowing purple trees everywhere. But what delights me even more than these is the way the purple flowers create countless “pictures” as they fall off the trees- here they have decorated the top of a variegated hedge plus the sidewalk, giving me a moment of joy. by @gillianwarephoto

Happy Birthday May Queen!

It brings me happiness this May Day to see this little painting of my mother’s- Armyne May Ware- hanging on my wall. Born on May Day 1900, for 100 years she quietly brought light and love, faith and wisdom into the world- both with her interactions with people and her immense love of nature revealed in all her Watercolours and early etchings. This painting from 1934 shows her intense love of trees and was painted in her beloved Scotland a couple of miles from where she grew up with her firm childhood belief in fairies! by @gillianwarephoto

It always touches my heart how just the trunk of a tree can transform an unattractive concrete building into something moving- in this case a delicate gently curving Eucalyptus tree. by @gillianwarephoto

Some friends may remember me writing about my urban “Prayer Garden”, a tree-filled tiny island formed by connecting roads, where some kind neighbor had left a welcome seat. Well, the seat sadly vanished but the trees are still a joy. This evening when the sun was low I took a roundabout way home to visit it and was rewarded with the sun transforming the delicate pine needles and making me deliriously happy! by @gillianwarephoto

I’ve always enjoyed this little glimpse through the trees of The Huntington’s Desert Garden, but it with the first sun we’ve had after weeks of rain it was looking particularly enchanting- a fairy tale of some sort.. @thehuntingtonlibrary by @gillianwarephoto

Many people find it hard to believe that Southern California can have a LOT of rain, as it certainly has over the last few weeks. This has resulted in grass constantly overwhelming me with its vivid colour and brightness. This in turn led to my enchantment this morning-crossing over a parking lot- to see how these tiny blades of bright green grass and other minute species had found this narrow crack in the otherwise impenetrable concrete in order to flourish. It seemed to have a message- in the darkest times there is always a way of finding a solution and bringing joy into the world. by @gillianwarephoto

I must have passed this little Cypress multiple x multiple times, but it was only when it caught the early evening light as I hurried home that it caught my attention and somehow moved me. by @gillianwarephoto
