🐦 Meet Olivia. Part-time game development inspector, full-time cockatiel.

She's been "helping" with the prototype cutting sessions thus week, mostly by standing on my work and judging me.

She's also a decent reminder of a rule I hold every component to: it earns its place, or it goes.

🎲 Every deck, token, and card type on the table has to justify itself in terms of the decisions it creates. If something exists only to track information that could be tracked another way, it's probably not earning its keep. If it creates a real decision moment for the player, it stays.

Some things didn't make it. The ones that did are on the table in that last shot.

🐦 Olivia approves. Probably. It really is hard to tell with her sometimes.

Testing a new component today: a player card with a built-in scoring wheel. We are testing with a DIY board for now, but what do you think about the options?

Meeples?
Or player board?

I like this form factor because it does a lot of work compared to cost. I can add artwork, player aids, and ghost personalities all in one component.

On the other hand, I know players like the tactile feel of a meeple moving across a board.

What do you prefer?

The Voodoo Doll.

One of 7 Relics in Phantomonium, and one of the ones that makes the table go quiet for a second before the chaos drops.

Steal the entire value of a Haunt from another player. This could swing the entire game your way if you play it well.

Built my first quad-fold board this week for Phantomonium! 👻

I wanted something that opens big at the table but folds down small enough to actually fit in a box so it won't look absurd on the shelf. Not to mention margins, ya'll! My first attempt was ... a little off, but we found our groove!

I followed @PubMeeple's tutorial for the construction, which saved me a lot of trial and error (and wasted materials). If you're building your own board and haven't seen their stuff, go look.

It's still early. I'm still figuring things out. I'm still designing out in public for all to see, so follow along (and click the link in the bio to sign up for the newsletter)! Click it!

👻 Phantomonium includes 7 unique Relics, some duplicated, for a spooky 13 total shuffled into the Ability deck. Relics cause chaos beyond normal haunting. Use them wisely!

✨ Steal points, negate an opponent's Relic, reveal last, double a haunt's value. Small cards with BIG swings.

Here's everything that goes into a game of Phantomonium. 👻

Ability deck (48 Abilities + 13 Relics, shuffled together). This is what you play to win Haunts. Abilities win Haunts. Relics cause all sorts of chaos. 🤪

The Haunt deck is what you're chasing.

Target cards decide who you're haunting and shift the values of Haunts. 🎯

Backlash cards are the neighborhood hitting back because Briarwood-ians are not passive. They're incompetent, yes. But not passive. ✨

The Situation Board tracks your progress and how spooked Briarwood Court is getting. First to 13 wins unless the residents of Briarwood Court (BWC) get fed up and call in the pros to kick you out! 💀

The Anomaly Token tells you who's up.

Phantomonium has matured a lot over the last few months, and these are the next iteration in development.
