For years I have hidden the very parts that make me who I am. Allowing my identity to be shaped by the world around me- my refusal to now bend to societal norms have continued to strengthen me as a young woman and person trying to navigate this big world. But, this is me. As a plus size model, I have had to strengthen my core for the challenging stereotypes and biases ahead. The last pick of the crowd, due to simply being plus size, I have and will continue to prove the naysayers wrong. I have allowed my sexual assault by a police officer hinder my growth as a model, social worker, and young, Black, Queer woman. With a masked used as a protection method, I will unveil those very things which have shaped me into Gina Lynn. I choose to remove my mask for the many young people who will follow ; those who refuse to allow past experiences to dictate their place in this world. You are beautifully you! #unveilyourself ➿

Dear Younger Self,

If I could sit beside you today, I’d wrap my arms around you and tell you something you desperately needed to hear: you make it through.

The road ahead isn’t easy. There will be moments that test your strength, break your heart, and make you question your worth. But through it all, you keep going. You grow into a woman who is resilient, compassionate, and stronger than she ever imagined.

I’m proud of you for surviving the things a child never should have had to endure. I’m proud of you for choosing kindness when life wasn’t always kind to you. I’m proud of you for getting back up every time life knocked you down. I’m proud of your continued self-reflection, which allowed you to learn and grow from hurting other’s to mask your pain.

The little girl who wondered if things would ever get better becomes someone who creates her own light. The pain doesn’t define you. Your courage does.

Thank you for holding on when it would have been easier to give up. Thank you for believing, even when you couldn’t see what was waiting for you on the other side. Thank you for giving yourself grace and patience.

Look how far we’ve come.

When I began modeling, I didn’t realize the true impact I would have on young girls and women. As a plus size woman, it is not uncommon for me to be the only one or one of the few models at a fashion show. A marginalized population that represents the majority of society; I constantly feel ‘ugly,’ despite others comments of my beauty. Constant fluctuations in weight due to fluctuations in medications, I try-I promise-I try, to remain ‘stable’. See, I am a victim of childhood and other sexual assault, which were so intrusive that it left me with a few uncommon diagnosis PFS (Pelvic Floor Spasms). I stand at work to mitigate the pain, and any moment in heels is a blessing. Any moment I take my medication, I recognize my ability from victim to survivor. As a child, I was taught to feel disgusting and ugly. I always was able to see everyone else’s beauty, but my own- so, I cannot thank you all enough for encouraging, supporting, and loving me on this journey of what I now realized is also about finding myself

Raised by a system whose former strategy was to seek ‘placements’ rather than ‘homes’ for vulnerable, traumatized youth- to DYFS, I am categorized as three things: Black, Black and White, and Olive. Yes, I am a vegetable. To the world, I am subjectivity, instantaneously placed into a subgroup of some marginalized population across a spectrum of ‘browness’ dependent upon that individual’s scope of the world. So, I have been identified as: Black, Black and White, “Mixed”, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Hawaiian, Yugoslavian (no longer a place), Italian, and the list goes on. I have been called: Carmel, Light-skinned, caramel latte, and exotic. I have countered with the idea that my being in this world bears no weight upon the color of my skin. My mere existence has enraged people to leave remarks, such as: you should be thrown over “the wall,” to go back to “your country”, and that you would have been in either “the field or the kitchen”. The ability to identify with one’s community, culture, and, therefore, self is critical to finding your place in this world; and, consequently, it has been 27 years that I have muddled through the world searching for just that. I have forced myself to believe that my place in this world and the results of an Ancestry Test were not mutually exclusive, but they are. Questioning my belonging in the world, I decided that, in a selfish world full of entitled people, I would belong to myself while taking complete ownership of myself and my experiences. I am Gina Lynn Pearson • A survivor of the foster care, mental health, and juvenile justice system • A sexual assault survivor • A child abuse & neglect survivor • domestic violence survivor • A stalking survivor • A bisexual individual •And, a proud, strong, BLACK woman territorial of her identity due to others hijacking it and attempting to reconstruct a version of their own. My identities are celebrated everyday REGARDLESS of societal standards 💁🏽‍♀️ .

I know people have done their top 9 photos, but I could not simplify my year in 9 photos. I have been given countless opportunities that I am forever grateful for, met people that have become friends (and some even family), explored places that I have never seen, and grew to know myself better than I ever had. I am forever grateful for each of you who have and continue to cheer me on throughout my journey; I see you and I love you 💕 I am so excited to see what this year brings for me, my partner, my family, friends, acquaintances, and each of you 😍 Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and beautiful New Year 🤗
