Experience the transformative power of Butoh as Raquel Almazan performs a site-specific ritual installation at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater.

Functioning as a ceremonial threshold into El Odio de un País, the Butoh performance begins on the 4th floor and guides audiences into the emotional and mythic landscape of the play. The staged reading follows the ritual.

EL ODIO DE UN PAIS/ The Hate of a Country, explores the conditions of women
through the dramatization of violence contrasted with the actions of healing and solidarity
within female communities. An autobiographical and biographical series of scenes that explore the mainstream history of Costa Rica from the perspective of family lineage.

It is our passion and drive to create snd share work that is honest, vulnerable, makes you think and feel. While building community and sharing.

So proud and happy for my husband @rhcomedy and all the hard work he’s put into himself, our family and his art. For embarking on this journey last night back home in NYC, as he inspired others and himself.

We are extremely thankful and humbled by the love and support. Thank you to all of you who helped us in putting this event together @gineiris_directs @dominicanartistscollective @mr.nickluis @trinidancekidd and @teatrolatea.

Be with us this Thursday & Friday @ 8PM as we present a workshop of Bronx artist Adrian Costa’s THE BATHROOM PLAY—a radical exploration of self-affirmation and care after drastic weight loss 🛁

Part voyeuristic snuff film and part fat liberatory manifesto, The Bathroom Play is a one-act solo performance written and performed by Adrian Costa based on the semi-autobiographical journey of our formerly fat protagonist to record his recently abandoned corporeal and spiritual practices of care after his drastic weight loss.

Grotesque, and yet still disarmingly vulnerable, “The Bathroom Play” hosts both sermon and funeral, holds court, and delivers judgment, challenging us to embrace the radical nature of self-affirming bodily practice and care.
