Today is National Good Neighbor Day!

For me, being a good neighbor means showing mutual respect, care, concern, and connecting folks to resources. It means being willing to dialogue and engage with folks, meeting them wherever they are.

I was proud to accomplish this over the weekend during our D7 Neighborhood Canvass Day! My team and volunteers went out to connect with neighbors, touching over 400 doors in the northern part of the district.

We left information on how to contact my office, access city services, and listened to residents’ concerns from blight to animal control. The Fire Department also installed fire alarms onsite!

Thank you to our friends at the Howard Family Bookstore for the staging space, to my dedicated team, Ginger Root 314 and to all the volunteers who showed up excited to canvass together.

This was the first but certainly not the last, District 7! I look forward to continuing the work of being a good neighbor and canvassing neighborhoods throughout the district, learning your concerns, challenges, and figuring out solutions together. by @gingerroot313

Black men are four times more likely to complete suicide than their white counterparts.

Part of the reason for that disparity is not having access to community and not having a space to express one’s self as a black man.

Sharing our experiences helps to connect us to who we are and who we ought to strive to be.

We’re making signs and we need YOUR help! This fall, MAGA is threatening to disrupt and intimidate our right to vote and we’re saying #HandsOffOurVote

But there’s a role for everyone in this fight! We’re calling upon creators, illustrators, and folks who know their way around some markers to join us to start this fall & make signs that local businesses can hang in their storefront to show solidarity with communities in saying #HandsOffOurVote! Thanks to everyone who joined our Community Gathering tonight, at The Islamic Center of Detroit ! Tonight we discussed bridging gaps across Black & Arab communities, keeping our focus on the issues that impact our people, and defending our communities and elections here in metro-Detroit!
