//The annual exhibition Kuvan Kevät showcases the works by students completing their master’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts. Students from all four subject areas participate in the exhibition: Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking and Time and Space Arts. Kuvan Kevät 2025 exhibits the work of up to 46 fine arts students. The exhibition will be spread across the Kuva/Tila gallery, other floors of the Mylly building and outdoor spaces around the Sörnäinen campus.

This year the diverse bodies of artistic work on show, relate to each other along themes that render the art object as: memento mori, gift, archaeological artifact, binary code, dystopian remnant, wayfinder, sacred and devotional offering, simulacrum, timekeeper, worm hole, fable, abjection, magic, and, finally, as dematerialised.

Academy of Fine Arts’ postdoctoral researcher and curator @nina.liebenberg oversees Kuvan Kevät 2025. Her curatorial practice tests how exhibition-making can promote the interaction of varied knowledges, generating outcomes that transcend any singular perspective. by @ginkohsu

本日より、地域の人々の大切な交流の場として長く親しまれてきた福井県あわら温泉の3つの薬師堂にて、Hamuro mAiR滞在中のアーティスト、ギンコ・スーによる出版作品『OEMK Vol.0: Elephant Tale』のポップアップ展示が１週間限定で開催されます。

会期　‣　6/23（火）～6/29（月）

また、会場のために制作された参加型インスタレーションを公開するオープンスタジオを、以下の日程で開催します。

オープンスタジオ　‣　6/28（日）

本インスタレーションは、写真の断片、余白（ネガティブスペース）、語り継がれてきた記憶や物語、人々が分かち合う食べ物や花、とんぼ玉、そして拾い集められたさまざまな物によって構成されています。これらの要素は、空き家で見つかった子どもの着物から着想を得た、断片的な構造の中に配置されています。本作は、断片化、反復、変容という過程を通じて、空間がいかに形成され、人々に住まわれ、そしてやがて過去から切り離されていくのかを考察するものです。

ギンコ・スーは、ヘルシンキを拠点に活動する彫刻家・アーティストです。記憶と神話を往還しながら、既存のアーカイブの外側に存在する個人的、あるいは集合的な記憶のかたちを探求しています。

現在は、Kone Foundation の助成を受け、「Olla ei mistään kotoisin（どこにも由来を持たないこと）」と題したリサーチベースのジンおよび展覧会シリーズを制作中です。今回のあわらでの展示では、地元建築家・岡俊徳氏との協働により、空き家を「出自のない家」のプロトタイプとして捉え、「住まい」とその脆く移ろうあり方を考察しています。

Starting today, the three Yakushi-do halls in Awara Onsen, Fukui — long functioning as important community gathering spaces — are hosting a one-week pop-up exhibition presenting selected pages from our Hamuro mAiR artist-in-residence, Ginko Hsu’s publication OEMK Vol.0: Elephant Tale.

An open studio event featuring a site-specific interactive installation will take place on

The installation brings together fragments of photographic imagery, negative space, oral histories, shared food and flowers, tombo-dama glass beads and found objects. These elements are organised through a segmented structure inspired by a child's kimono composition discovered in an akiya (vacant house). The works explore how spaces are formed, inhabited and gradually detached from their past.

Ginko Hsu is a Helsinki-based sculptor and interdisciplinary artist. Her practice moves between memory and myth, exploring forms of personal and collective memory that exist outside established archives.

She is currently developing Olla ei mistään kotoisin (Of No Origin), a research-based zine and exhibition series that explores absence and illegibility as portals to alternative knowledge systems, supported by the Kone Foundation. In collaboration with local architect Toshinori Oka, the Awara exhibition approaches akiya (vacant houses) as a prototype for a home without origin.

New works in the progress…

I want to also make some cute glass cats for the Christmas gifts, but they might not be in time for firing until later in December let’s see.

Today it is really sad to hear our cat Huajuan has lost his eyesight… Animals can’t talk and it is really difficult to notice their pain. Now looking back we could already see that his pupils did not contract like they should in this photo from last Saturday. I wish Huajuan could recover. If not at least Dundun can be his new eyes. ❤️‍🩹
