Yesterday didn’t go exactly as planned, but that’s what made it special. We missed the first train and ended up waiting another hour at the train station. On our way to the street parade we grabbed a coffee and let the day unfold.

We only planned to go watch the Cape Town Street Parade along Somerset Road, where the city was fully alive. The streets were filled with markets, music and people, with the troupes walking past in full colour, rhythm and pride. Somerset Road felt like the heart of Cape Town in that moment.

Then the plans shifted again. A friend surprised us with tickets, so we made a plan, got more and headed to DHL Greenpoint Stadium as well. Inside the stadium the performances continued, with the troupes bringing the same energy, joy and celebration as they did on the streets.

From street to stadium, the fun never stopped. Proud of where I come from. Proud of our colour community. This is part of a series where I take you along with me through the moments that shape my days.

I’m learning to prioritize my peace, focus on my path, and release the weight of others’ opinions. Life’s too short to be controlled by external noise. I’m on a journey of self discovery, acceptance, and growth. Finding solace in the present moment, I’m choosing to cultivate a life filled with serenity, compassion, and understanding. by @ginodean_thaysen

If you see my beard looking a bit crazy as this set of images progresses, it’s because @hessmonique36 was my make up artist 🤣. by @ginodean_thaysen

I'm still on a high from our recent fashion show at Groote Schuur High School! As a director, I'm always reminded of my childhood passion for bringing stories to life on stage. Seeing the learners shine on the catwalk, their confidence and joy radiating like spotlights, took me back to when I first fell in love with directing.

What makes directing shows so special for me is the attention to detail - I love being involved in every step of the process, from props to lighting, costumes to makeup, and hair styling. There's something magical about bringing all these elements together to create an unforgettable experience.

A huge thank you to the talented team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes - your choreography, coaching, props, lighting, sound, and voice-over artistry brought magic to the show! And to the GS High School family, it's always a pleasure to collaborate with you. The learners are truly fantastic, and I'm honored to have been a part of their creative journey.

As I watched the show unfold, I was reminded that directing isn't just about telling a story - it's about empowering others to tell theirs. Thank you to everyone involved for making this production a success. by @ginodean_thaysen
