So glad I tromped on over today to my new fave hang in the city, Biidaasige Park, where the latest bit of public art, the amazing sculpture cluster “The Colony” by Kent Monkman was just installed. It’s an absolutely joyous assembly of metal beavers having a blast and hanging out together. Few things are more playfully Canadian during this Thanksgiving long weekend.

It’s located at the west end of the park where the mouth of the Don River meets Lake ONTARIO. Also right by the great view of the skyline.

Go see it in person if you can before the bad weather socks in 🦫

4 years ago tonight, my brother Bob passed. He drew this picture on his iPad, and this image is on the t-shirt I’ll be wearing to work tonight.

It’s all still a surreal gut punch. He should still be here cheering for the Jays and Leafs and sassing me with sarcasm and swears 😄

Tonight starts the now-annual second “sad corridor” between this anniversary, past my late mom’s birthday later this month, and up to my late dad’s birthday in December. (The reverse happens in March-April.) Trying to remember the good times when I get bombarded with the sad ones.

Unlike previous goes through this corridor, I am currently being booze-free so I can’t toast him in the usual way. I’m considering breaking 19 weeks sober for this. Just one sipped shot of great whisky. Don’t know which way I’ll go until I get back from work later. Whatever.

Running some errands took me near Casa Loma today. I love the old stonework and every time I see the quite long exterior set of stairs, I chuckle at the thought of Lucas Lee (Chris Evans) skateboarding down the railings in “Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.” Also always nice to swing by Union Station area, Berczy Park (though the dog fountain was waterless today), St. Lawrence Market, and I did a brief pop-in to Toronto’s oldest post office (and museum, plus it’s older than Canada as a nation) at 260 Adelaide East. Gotta visit that one again sometime hopefully soon and have a longer look-around. by @gioardio
