Looking for pictures and videos for this reel reminded me of all the good this year brought, even though so many days felt so hard.

Laughs were had, tears were shed, fears conquered, challenges faced, home was changed, work was not enjoyed, reality was questioned, relationships were strengthened, moments shared, games were played and love carried us through it all.

Movement was my word for the year and I was moved to my core. I’m feeling hopeful for what is to come in 2026, not sure about the word just yet but it is feeling like a year of discovery, shedding and blooming. It sounds very pretty but bracing myself for the ride.

Sending you so much love and light for your new year 🤍 by @giselletaminez

My 🌙 girl is 24!

We melted today celebrating her but we wouldn’t have it any other way. So blessed and grateful to have her home and loved spending the day with our favorite people to shower her with love.

Seeing her baby pictures feels like a lifetime ago and also just yesterday…

Sweet girl I would melt a million more days to celebrate you!

Thank you for being such a wonderful daughter and big sister. I don’t know how we got so lucky. Te amamos 💕 by @giselletaminez

My dad turned 84 years old earlier this month, and he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a year ago.

He is the smartest man I have ever met.

As a little girl, I was fascinated that I could ask him anything and he would always know the answer. When he was 12 years old, he decided to speak English, so he taught himself English.

In his late 70s, he was committed to getting a master’s degree, so he enrolled in an online college and got two master’s degrees. He is a fantastic artist, passionate about math, and devoted to Jesus. His eyes will often water when talking about Jesus.

Up until his diagnosis, and for over a decade, he walked 3 miles daily, rain or shine, summer, winter, or fall. It was his form of prayer.

When he turned 21, he signed up as a Freemason and stayed for over 30 years. This was not something he disclosed, so my mother found out when she saw him being interviewed on TV when they were newlyweds.

My dad has been my spiritual mentor my entire life. He taught us to meditate, visualize, and pray when we were kids. During loud Latino New Year’s Eve parties, he would pull our family aside to hold intention circles for our New Year’s resolutions. He loved to read passages of the bible and analyze how the passages proved scientific theories.

My dad and I have always connected by sharing stories, theories, and debating. We have been known to speak nonstop during 12-hour road trips. A lunch date would include deep conversations about Kabbalah and the seven paths to enlightenment.

I don’t know what the future holds…Today, I simply feel incredibly grateful for him. For our walks, our conversations, and for having a cheerleader who expresses his love for me so freely. For the strong relationship my girls have with their grandfather. For my hands, which look just like his.

I hope the future is tender and kind to him. I hope we have more time, of the good kind.

Feliz cumpleaños papi. Te amamos y celebramos.

Ayahuasca & My Master Pieces

I’ve been wanting to write for a while. I often have whole narratives running through my head but my brain had been quiet for a while.
What do I need to say? What do I have to say…

Silence…not one word of inspiration. My 20 Substack drafts felt forced and inauthentic.

Recently, the narratives have started to come back: while making beds, doing the dishes, walking to the metro, and falling asleep…

During this morning’s commute, I began watching the movie The Life List. The scene where Alex is curling up to her mom made me think of my girls. I thought of how I am turning 50 in two months, and my life keeps flashing before me. Not because I feel like I am dying, but because I feel that the last third of my life has to have some significance. Create some impact. Give me the sense that I have achieved something or created a magnificent life. And listen, this may all be inner work and me not truly appreciating what I have. It may also be my hormones during perimenopause that have brought on depression and anxiety. Regardless, I want to find a sense of peace and accomplishment within myself that I don’t have or feel.

This brought back the memory of the one time I did Ayahuasca. This was back in 2003, before it was trendy or cool. The trip that lasted 3 hours for everybody else was 20 hours long for me. It was intense, and after over two decades, I am ready to do it again. Ok, now back to the memory. At the time, I was 28, married, and mom to a magical 2-year-old girl. My marriage was crap and my husband would tell me daily I was a failure. During the Ayahuasca trip, I asked my spirit guides about my failures and accomplishments in life. And I remembered being shown my little girl and told, “But look at her, she is your masterpiece.”

So this morning, while walking to my next train after watching the scene of Alex and her mom, tears are running down my cheeks because if there is anything I am extremely proud of is the relationship I have with each of my girls. I could see myself sharing a moment like that with each of them, and then I felt the message being whispered to me again, “but look, Giselle, they are your masterpieces.” by @giselletaminez

Ending 2024 in the south of Chile.

Slow days in a cabin by the pool, large family meals, board games, connecting with beloved family we had not seen in over a decade.

Our hearts are full. We never expected to be together this year but amongst heart breaking news, coming together is a blessing.

2024 has been a year of the highest highs cohabiting with heartbreak. Such is life I guess…finding the good in every moment and learning not to take anything or anyone for granted. by @giselletaminez
