@justinkbroadrick (@godfleshofficial / jesu) and Mick Harris (SCORN/Napalm Death) drop militant, hard techno on split LP

New album doubles the track count (and runtime) of the duo’s last collab

Stalwart Birmingham, UK innovators Justin K Broadrick and Mick Harris have connected again as JK FLESH and MONRELLA to deliver the warehouse-destroying hard techno LP SHOUTING THE ODDS, five years after their last EP, SEE RED.

Featuring four tracks from each artist, SHOUTING THE ODDS invokes both the feeling of listening to late night pirate radio and sweating in a darkened warehouse as the rafters shake, complete with the perfect amount of analog wow and flutter. Brimming with gnarled, unrelenting kicks hovering between 130–140bpm, the split format deftly showcases both artist’s individual strengths, while displaying undeniable commonality.

Broadrick’s side leans traditional hard techno, filled with mesmerizing, minimal synth arpeggios and contrasting toplines, all aligned and maligned by shrewd transitions. Harris’ section presents more experimental and house influences, using bright, distorted synth hits and a touch of forlorn melody. The tracks take on a life of their own through expert use of filters and just the right amount of delay, stutter, and glitch.

Never before has an album filled with such shining, shimmering synths been so black and threatening. JK FLESH and MONRELLA have hard techno down to a science.

Review: JK Flesh and Monrella shake familiar Uk Midlands hands on Shouting The Odd, both artists deep in late-phase refinement and topping up their hard-saturated collaborative core with the force of a powder-action nailgun. Justin Broadrick continues his JK Flesh run with a full A-side of antigonal tones; ‘Disagreeable’, ‘Transactional’, ‘Used/User’ strong-arming the band with the rubbly unclarity of trench warfare, and the titular style of a Sarah Kane play. Update on EU Shipping

Since 2017, GIVE/TAKE has been proud to provide direct shipping worldwide. We’ve always strived to keep costs low and accurate.

With the recent EU customs duty that went into effect July 1st, sellers like us are now required to pay ALL duties, taxes and fees associated with landed costs on items sent to the European Union, effectively doubling our shipping rates to the EU. In the past, we’ve gone to great lengths to accurately calculate our shipping costs per country, but these new rules make it impossible to calculate the additional costs in advance. We can’t absorb these new exorbitant costs, and don’t expect you to either.

As a result, we can no longer ship directly to the EU at this time.

Thankfully, the majority of our releases are distributed worldwide, so music lovers in the EU can still obtain GIVE/TAKE releases affordably. Use the smart links in our social media bio and that we provide with each release to see if direct shipping to the EU is available. If not, we suggest checking with your favorite record store or retailer, or using a search engine to find local sellers.
