GIZZTOBER 17: LUNGS
A shambling Reaper covered in fungus stands above a small stream. It’s a resident of one of the five Mycelial regions of Gaia; this one being responsible for most of the oxygen production on the planet.
Woodlands do exist, however, they’re small and very fragile. Most of them have been wiped out by wildfires in recent years. Their plants, too, are unable to adapt to the rapidly rising temperatures. Most of the remaining woodlands are thriving near large water sources or have some kind of large life support system keeping them maintained.
This region is located just west of the Petro plains - Herald’s domain - and is populated by millions of Reapers. The air itself is thick and muddy with spores, drawing high into the atmosphere and getting filtered into oxygen. This lands of this area are shattered by mountains, making it very difficult to traverse.
Just south of the plains sits a hot ocean that feeds the Mycelial forest (which, in turn, keeps it alive) and fuels the storms that ravage the plains north of it.
The lands of the forest are plagued by a fungus that latches onto any Reaper that stays there. It doesn’t kill them; rather, it contorts their bodies unnatural ways. The Reaper loses its ability to feel pain and also becomes very brittle outside of humid environments. Key characteristics of this fungus include two, large squishy fungal horns on either side of the Reaper’s crown, ‘hooked’ legs, a mycelial colony on their back and a deathly thin frame. It’s coincidence that Herald and the infected Reapers look similar. Herald is a representative of a long extinct proto-species of Reaper. Perhaps the fungus was what killed that species in particular. by @gizztober

Lots of options on this one from so many great songs. ✌️ Let me know what you think of this one. Effects make it kind of hard to make out, so I’ll put other images in comments.
This is definitely a challenge just finding time every single day. I guess I’ll just hibernate through November. 😁.
