What an unforgettable week in Canada! 🇨🇦✨ From August 10–17, 2026, GK USA Next Gen had the incredible opportunity to connect with the Filipino-Canadian community, perform at Taste of Manila, and help bring Sayawit Summer Night to life.

We were honored to help host Sayawit Summer Night, celebrating Filipino music, dance, and cultural expression while raising awareness for Gawad Kalinga’s mission to build communities and create opportunities for a better future. Being part of the event both on and behind the scenes showed us how much goes into creating spaces where people can connect, celebrate, and serve together.

At Taste of Manila, we had the privilege of sharing Filipino culture through dance, as GK Sayawit, we performed alongside local dancers and connected with the local Filipino youth, performers, volunteers, and community leaders. It was a beautiful reminder that culture has a way of bringing people together, no matter where we are in the world.

More than the performances and events, this trip was about community and relationships. We are so grateful to GK Canada and everyone who welcomed us, collaborated with us, and shared their stories and culture with us.

From Florida to Canada, we’re reminded that what we build in one community can inspire another. Culture can cross borders, service can connect communities, and together, we can continue building something meaningful.

From sharing our stories to sharing our experiences, Panama ng Karunungan reminded us that leadership begins with learning from one another. 🤍

We’re grateful to have traveled to California to facilitate this workshop at Santa Clara University with @scubarkada, where we connected with Filipino student leaders and exploring how our stories, cultures, and experiences shape the leaders we’re becoming. PhilFest in Tampa just celebrated 30 years of bringing Filipino culture to life and this weekend truly felt like home.

GK NextGen and the GK Tampa team, alongside the Philippines Nurses Association, created a space that went beyond a booth. Our volunteers walked through the festival sharing taho and balut with the crowd, just like it’s done in the streets of the Philippines. So many people stopped, smiled, and shared stories that made the whole experience feel familiar and close.

We served balut, taho, boiled mani, and ube cookies, but more than that, we shared moments that brought people together.

A special highlight was GK Next Gen’s Sayawit exhibition set at the annual Revolution dance competition, where they showcased cariñosa, arnis, and tinikling. It was a beautiful expression of culture on stage and a reminder of how these traditions continue to be shared in new spaces.

GK NextGen is a community of young volunteers who stay connected to the Philippines through service, culture, and community. From events like this to conferences and immersion trips, it’s a space to show up and be part of something meaningful.

Proceeds from PhilFest will support NextGen initiatives, including future immersion trips, with a portion also going to the Kusina ng Kalinga (Feeding)program.

Thank you to GK NextGen and the GK Tampa team for showing up with so much energy and care, and to everyone who stopped by and spent time with us.

❤️Our proceeds will be going towards GK NextGen movement building and the KnK program!

🏃🏽‍♀️Movement building will help us with our conferences and Next Gen members go on immersion trips!

🍲KnK stands for Kusina ng Kalinga, a GK youth development program that responds to the chronic hunger and malnutrition among Filipino children. This program has community kitchens established all over the Philippines where volunteers prepare meals for at least 300 children at each kitchen.
