It starts with raw wood and ends with something built to stand the test of time. Every detail has a place in the bigger picture. The materials matter, and so does the work that goes into putting them together. This is what wood looks like when it’s done right. 👌🏻

Shou Sugi Ban is an age-old Japanese technique that uses fire to bring out the best in wood. The charring process creates a distinct, textured surface while helping protect against moisture, insects, and rot.

The result is wood with deep character, natural durability, and a finish that only gets better with time. Our Timberforge line is built for the elements, bold enough to stand on its own, and versatile enough for both interior and exterior projects. Some finishes just hit different, and this is one of them. 👌🏻

When the wood grain does all the talking. 😮‍💨

The texture, the movement, the way it carries from one piece to the next…it’s what brings a project to life before anything else even goes in. When you’re building something meant to stand out, those details matter. Let the wood set the tone, we’ll help you get it there.

The future is wood, and the material choices we make matter…because the projects of tomorrow call for smarter decisions about what we take, what we use, and what we leave behind. Wood has a way of bringing all of that together: natural character, lasting performance, and a material that can be milled, shaped, and finished to fit the vision.

The right wood choices do more than make a house look good. They help define how it feels and how it stands the test of time. Build with intention. Choose materials that mean something. 🪵

Each finish is carefully curated in our millshop to achieve a specific tone. Once installed, the natural variations in wood, surrounding architecture, regional climate, and changing light all influence its final appearance.

Before a finish is chosen for an entire custom exterior, it often starts a whole lot smaller. Our sample team carefully creates the boards that help architects, builders, designers and owners envision how a finish could translate across siding, soffit, timber accents, and the exterior as a whole.

There’s a tremendous amount of care behind every sample board that goes out of our warehouse. The team captures the color, grain and character on each species of wood to showcase the finished product as accurately as possible. It might seem like a small step in our process, but it’s an important one. And the people behind it are an invaluable part of the Glacier Millworks team.

This Driggs, Idaho custom built home was designed to feel clean and naturally fit with the landscape, while still standing out. We supplied 1x6 T&G STK Cedar in “Glacier” from the Alpine line, bringing that natural texture and a consistent tone to the exterior while keeping with that sharp architecture.

Every board was custom milled right here at the shop in Montana, with the same level of consistency and finish we expect and inspect before it ever gets loaded on the trucks. We delivered it to @elk.ridge.builders whose attention to detail and solid workmanship got the job done.

Pretty solid example of good material meeting good craftsmanship.

Why settle on one finish when the right combination makes the whole exterior stronger? This custom Whitefish home pairs two bold finishes from our Timberforge line: warm, natural “Summer Wheat” with striking “Gun Metal Black” creating a contrast that adds depth and dimension.

The siding and soffit set the tone for this entire project in Sandpoint, Idaho and make the exterior pretty hard to overlook. These townhomes were built to make a statement from the street, and we think it’s safe to say the millwork does exactly that. 👌🏻

There’s more to a finished exterior than choosing the right color. The materials, finish, and installation all play a role in how it looks, weathers and holds up over time. It’s more than picking a sample…you have to get all three right to hold up for the long haul.
