Lehi Attorneys and Glaciers Chambers are pleased to announce a partnership aimed at providing free Notary Public services to Aspirants to the Bar in respect of their Benchers’ Forms.

This initiative forms part of the firms’ Corporate Social Responsibility and support to the Aspirants towards their Call to Bar process.

The free notarization exercise will run from 11th May 2026 to 20th May 2026.

Our latest edition of Advocates Digest is out now !
In this article, our partner @agbejoro1 examines the possibility that the ACJA regime may have recalibrated the treatment of confessional statements by placing greater emphasis on voluntariness, not merely as a condition for admissibility, but also as a prerequisite for the attachment of probative value. Put differently, the article considers whether voluntariness may now operate as the primary threshold governing both the admission of a confessional statement and the weight a Court is entitled to place on it.

He further suggests that a reasonable argument can be made that the later retraction of a confessional statement, or the failure to object to its voluntariness, may no longer be decisive. Instead, a Court may be unable to admit, rely on, or attach probative value to a confessional statement unless it is first satisfied that the statement was made voluntarily and in strict compliance with the provisions of the Act. by @glaciers.chambers
