This was a September make but I’m only getting around to posting it now.

It’s the #SiloDress by @OpenStudioPatterns, in a heavy denim with slight stretch from @LesCouponsdeSaintPierre.

This will be great for winter as it is quite thick and heavy, but I can also imagine it as a nice summer pattern in linen or cotton. It can be made in either woven or stretch fabric. The very large armholes mean that it would always need a top underneath it, even in summer, but that is one of its style features, like the large funnel neck and the huge (and very useful) pockets placed over the side seam. I could possibly have sized down to the smallest size if I had wanted something more dress-like, but here I was going for more of a tunic look so I made it in the second-smallest size.

All that topstitching over thick seams in a thick fabric was hard work for the machine, but it survived!

(My previous make was a hospital scrubs-style pyjama set for @diziercharles but he didn’t want me to post a photo of him in it! 😆).

These are “jeans” rather than jeans as they are not denim, but a kind of chambray I got in the remnant sale at @tissusreine

The basic pattern was the @peppermintmagazine #peppermintwidelegpants - definitely a TnT pattern as I have made them several times. I put in a side zipper rather than a front fly, and added three unpaired pockets: one traced from an old pair of RTW jeans at the back, and two variants, at the side seam and on the front, of a pocket from Vogue #V1644.

The textile necklace is from @sejourclub in Adelaide, Australia.

Now that I have some summer “jeans” the weather is of course cooling down, so I’m unlikely to get much wear out of them before next summer…

I’m hoping that the second half of this year will be much more productive sewing-wise than the first half, which was completely dominated by moving apartments.

This jumpsuit is a mashup of 3 patterns: the pants are from the #sasssuit pattern by @bygraciesteel, the pockets are from the #darlingjumpsuit by @makemylemonade, and the top has been modified from a vintage New Look (K6415) dress pattern.

The fabric is a thrifted @IKEA duvet cover, bought from @petitsriens.be on a visit to Brussels.

(And the vintage Italian chairs are from @artdesignshoppp 😊)

Well, it’s been a VERY long time since I have sewn anything! Not that I didn’t want to, but the first half of this year was taken up with finding a new apartment (our previous landlord was selling up), preparing the move, moving, and putting stuff away. The latter phase is still not quite finished but at least I finally have my sewing machines up and running!
I made something small to get back into the swing of things - the Sorrento Bucket Hat by @elbe_textiles . I have made a few presents with this pattern in the past, but had never made this hat for myself. This one was made to match an outfit I was wearing for an outdoor concert by the choir I am in. That was yesterday, which was an extremely hot day here in Paris!
The embroidered linen is from @generaldifftissus .

I haven’t posted for a while - it took me an extraordinarily long time to finish this blouse, not because it was problematic but I was just distracted and busy with overseas visitors, a holiday in Puglia, etc… So I was just doing little bits from time to time…

This is the Helsinki Blouse by @leslubiesdecadia. It has short-sleeve and sleeveless options; I included the sleeves but lengthened them to 3/4 length. I made it in a size 34 with no other adjustments. The pattern has nice clear instructions, both in the PDF and in the YouTube video. There are some minor differences in process between the PDF and video instructions, which is a good thing because the instructions complement each other and give you an occasional choice of methods.

I think this pattern could also work as a light summer jacket.

The fabric is a tablecloth from a thrift store in Brussels - @petitsriens.be, and the buttons are from a special sewing thrift store in Sydney, Australia - @achievesewingbasket. Swipe for a closer shot of the buttons and fabric.

Some very summery pyjamas, which I finished just as the summer weather stopped! 😆

I was going for a kind of “playsuit” look, and combined two patterns:
- The @isainstitches DIY Boxer Pants- a pyjama pant pattern (with pockets!😀) which has a couple of different variations. I cut the legs to shorts length and eliminated the front fly opening
- The @fibremood Uzma, which I shortened to crop length, inserting loose-ish elastic around the hem

The fabric is a cotton remnant from @lescouponsdesaintpierre

Looking forward to some hot weather to wear them in - I should be in Australia for Christmas, so there’s an opportunity!

I have just realised that there are a couple of makes I haven’t posted yet…

Before I put away the New Look 6483 pattern which I had previously hacked from a top to a dress, I had an urge to make another dress with it, so I made a longer one, using one of the other neck shapes in the pattern.

I bought this fabric when I was a beginner, at @lescouponsdesaintpierre, and I remember thinking at the time that it must have been something posh, but in fact it just seems to be ordinary polyester! 😆

Anyway, even in a synthetic fabric it’s airy for these hot days…

I just finished this in time to post it on the last day of Ankara Appreciation Week, an annual celebration of African wax (Ankara) fabric thought up by @thatlenaking and @julietuzor_ It’s always fun to sew things in these bright and joyous prints which are identical on both sides (that is, they don’t have a “wrong side”).

I used a top pattern, New Look 6483 (which has several variations of sleeveless tops); I extended it to dress length while making it slightly more A-line, and I added in-seam pockets.

Another make with New Look K6145…

This time I used it to make a dress, as the pattern intended. As I had managed to make a top with this pattern without needing a zipper or buttons at the back, I decided to try my luck with a non-opening dress (the pattern has a zipper opening). Once again I was able to get by without a back opening, and without sacrificing the back darts. I added pockets on the front (not that they are very visible). I can tell this is going to become a TnT pattern! 😊

The lovely geometric-print cotton is from Les Tissus du Chien Vert.

Just scraping in on the last day of Sew What You Need June!

Whether I REALLY needed this is somewhat debatable. We were told to wear red tops to sing in our amateur choir concert. I discovered I had over a dozen RTW red summer tops, so even after lending half of them out to other choir members, I still had plenty. But I decided I still “needed” a specially made one for the concert! 😉 So I adapted the top half of New Look K6145 (which is a dress pattern). As the neck is quite wide, I didn’t need any back opening, so that made it quite a quick sew. The red linen is from Rijs Textiles.

I’m going to slip this in as a #memademay2024 post as I did actually finish making these pants (and wore them) on May 30… 😉

This is a mashup of three patterns: the main part of the pants is the bottom half of the always-useful #sasssuit pattern by @bygraciesteel, the pockets are from the #darlingjumpsuit by @makemylemonade, and the waistband is from the #peppermintpatterns Wide Leg Pants.

Also I made an addition: at the sides, over the seams, I added strips of a precioussssssss fat quarter of @kaffefassettstudio fabric (swipe for closer shot).

The main fabric is upcycled from @r_use.fabrik in Brussels (I’m not sure what it is but it has a sort of canvas texture on the right side and brushed cotton texture on the wrong side).

I am a very late starter for #memademay this year! I have been wearing me-mades practically every day but haven’t had a chance to post anything, and it’s taken me till now to complete my first make of the month! 😬(Busy with overseas visitors and a trip to Lisbon, among other things).

I was supposed to be doing an easy palate-cleanser in an ordinary fabric, but ended up making something with furnishing fabric again 😆 (from #tototissus in Lille). It’s more of a burnt orange colour than it looks in the photos. This rather origami-inspired pattern - Vogue 1113, by Mizuki, from the 1990s - was a little tricky because of the unusual shape. And a lot of topstitching was involved…
