This little lady makes her home in a few different places in the tank but under the Euphyllia colonies is her favorite spot. She is the only clown in our tank and will remain that way after she killed her mate of almost a decade. Mama Cat is released and recovered and back to visiting us daily. Today she left us a dead vole as a little gift. We are more than happy to provide her with food and some outside feral cat shelters so she can live out her life in our yard.(she was too feral to rehab so she is now our outside cat) #tnr #feralcatsneedlovetoo #spayingandneuteringsaveslives by @glassmunky

The Kitten Chronicles are officially over! Anyone that knows us knows we have been trying to trap this Mama Cat for about three years. T.H. McMurdermittens is from the first litter and we’ve managed to catch almost every kitten since then but never the Mama. Today was a good day. We caught her and her last kitten! A few years ago we sealed up a bucket of menhaden and green crabs that were left over bait with equal weight of brown sugar and made a batch of FAA(Fish Amino Acids) which is a great source of slow release nitrogen for the garden. We poured off the collected liquid after a year and then sealed it up again and kind of forgot about it since we got so much off the first batch. Today I decided to open the bucket. I was amazed at the how much more liquid there was and how amazing not horrible it smelled. I strained it and jarred it up and these jars will last us years. If anyone wants to try a nice slow release nitrogen source for their garden let us know! #faa #fishaminoacid #organicfertilizer #feedyoursoil by @glassmunky

After a week spent in the acclimation box, the Angels were ready for release into the main tank. As soon as we lifted the door to the box, the smaller Angel took right off out the door. The bigger of the two took a little longer, but immediately found the other fish in the tank. We do have Tangs so there is some territorialism to be dealt with with the introduction of any new fish. Our trick is mirrors. We put up small mirrors on the outside of the tank, reflecting in and leave them up for about a week. The Tangs worry more about this new fish that looks just like them than any actual new fish. This gives the new fish time to settle in and by the time we take them down, the Tangs view them as just part of the tank community. Here is a short clip of our acclimation process for adding new fish to the tank. This is our new pair of Watanabe Angels, one of the reef safe Angelfish. After a long wait for availability and to save up for the cost we snagged a quarantined pair from @tsm_aquatics and brought them home. We drop acclimated them to our parameters and then added them to our acclimation box from @pnwcustom. They spent a week in there with some bath-towel assisted acclimation to our lighting levels as well since they are deeper water fish and we have lighting adjusted for our coral. They did well and ate like champs, even grabbing bigger pieces of the frozen stuff.
