today we were finally able to go spread my dad’s ashes at sea. we noticed how the number 7 keeps popping up in our family history. my grandma and my nephew were both born on 7/7, i was born on 11/7, my dad passed on 3/7 and today is 10/7. mom brought some flowers that keep blooming in her pots, as she always recycles soil and it’s full of seeds. dad really liked these ones. we released his ashes in front of rivabella, where he was born and raised. i spent a great deal of my teenage years in that neighborhood as well. feels like everything is a painfully beautiful cycle, if you just pay attention. taken in Rivabella Di Rimini by @glauco9_9

e’ mi ba us n’è andé.
he was not a good dad to me or my sister, but he was the one we got. so far, the most humbling experience of my 30s has been, just like for many other men, finding out so much of him lives in me. after spending decades rejecting it, i’ve come to terms with it. it’s what you make of it. i’m carrying a lot of conflicting emotions, as one does in these moments. but i’m relieved i got to say goodbye, and mostly glad he’s no longer suffering. because even he deserved a better ending than this. and my mom certainly didn’t deserve two traumatic years of 24/7 caregiving, pointless treatments, and sudden hospitalizations. but the sun came out, and we look ahead. taken in Rimini, Italy by @glauco9_9
