• @GLMastering Hi, I'm Graeme. I run GL Mastering which is based in Kempston Street Studios in Liverpool.

I work with major labels, independent labels, small studios, big studios, self-funding artists... everyone and anyone.

My philosophy is quite simple: I like to work collaboratively with artists. I like to chat about you, and find out exactly how we're going to get the best out of your project, and get your music ready for release.

I've had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest artists around but every person I work with gets the same high level of attention regardless.

There's a technical level to mastering, but there's also a musical one too. I like to work with a mixture of analogue and digital tools... Whatever allows us to extract the full potential from your music.

I could go on and on forever about mastering but it's really not about what I do... it's all about you and your music and how I can help so if you want to have a chat about how we can work together, just drop me a message!

@talisetunes ‘Skedaddle Ridge’ is on all streaming platforms! I wrote this song about some historical Canadian settlements. When the U.S. Federal government instituted military drafts in the 19th century, numerous men from Maine and neighboring states crossed the international border into the Canadian Appalachian range to avoid service. These groups lived relatively isolated, self-sufficient lives in small communities. Over time, some residents returned to the United States after the war ended, while others integrated permanently into the Canadian countryside living off the land. They called these people the “skedaddlers.”

The mask is this video is a creature mask that I borrowed from my friend @creaturehallow ! It was made from recycled textiles, beeswax, Deer Skin, Sheep’s Wool, Black walnut juice, Wheat paste.

This lovely little puppet is named Son Jr and was hand carved by Kaley Tivy yellowbellforge @tangled.whimsy

This was recorded live off the floor around a mic with @tynancaine on fiddle, @mark_mckowski on guitar, @drewhelsinki on upright bass and @ian_skelly_music on percussion. I am on clawhammer banjo and vocals.

• @glmastering Are you going or thinking about going to university to study something music related? I give my opinion on whether or not it's worth it or if it's a waste of time/money.

For many, it's an amazing opportunity. For some, it simply doesn't meet expectations. And it all comes down to what you want to gain from the experience and how you like to learn. Regardless of what you do, it's important to remember: university isn't for everyone. So don't feel you NEED to go or risk forever being left behind. It can open doors for many, but not always!

A former tutor of mine gave a perfect example of University: it's like a bucket... what you put in, you get out.

This is my biased opinion based on my own personal experiences. As always, get as many for or against opinions to help formulate your own (this is the whole point of University anyway!)

I went as a mature student; so even if you don't go now... there's always opportunity to study later in life by @glmastering

• @blossomsband - The Honeymoon was taken from a deluxe release of the number 1 album Gary and later released standalone which had it feature on @radiox track of the week. Here's the approach behind mastering the music:

A great sounding track and record. The 'normal' version of the album was mastered by Matt Colton so there was already a vibe to work off, but it still needed to sound like the mixes that were sent over.

Naturally I leaned towards the outboard for this to ensure the mix kept its really cool musicality but I think the 2 methods used that people might find slightly unconventional is the clipper for filtering and the low shelf side EQ.

It's always important to remember when you work on mixes, you don't always need to follow the "traditional" use and placements of how and when to apply processing. Usually if it sounds right, it probably is right.

I often favour my rupert neve low shelf on the sides as it doesn't interfere with the sub content, but can add a nice weight to guitars. Especially on rock music.

Pairing that up with a nice low mid boost (around 800hz) can add a nice shape and help to separate any congestion in the lows and low mids.

I have a Fab Filter ProQ3 pre set with some cool shapes and sounds in. Dm me if you are interested. by @glmastering

• @theuglygram 'Gold' was mastered by me. Here's the approach and mindset behind working on an already great sounding mix.

Sometimes the simplest methods are the best. And this is the approach i took for this master. An important lesson I learned (through plenty of trial and error...) is you don't mess with someones work. You need to respect the song, the artist, the producer and the mix engineer. Plenty of time and effort went into making a song and it certainly doesn't need a mastering engineer messing it up right at the end.

A combination of dynamic processing and EQ's was all that was needed to just give the track a final 5-10%. Nothing more. But, as simple as it sounds, these are the hardest jobs I get and it takes a bit of time to work out which tools are best suited to add that final % without pushing it too far.

Thanks @samharperer for the trust! by @glmastering
