👋 Meet the people behind the Council As we kick-off 2026 and welcome new faces to this page, we wanted to take a moment to re-share who we are at the Global Strategic Litigation Council. We believe in the power of people and the law to advance the human rights of people on the move. We unite a global membership of over 650 grassroots and refugee-led organisations, lawyers and advocates. Together with affected communities, we bring litigation and advocacy that has transformed the lives of over 400,000 refugees and migrants, including: ➡️ preventing thousands from being sent back to countries where their lives would be at-risk ➡️ freeing families from unlawful detention ➡️ ensuring refugee children go to school Behind the work is a dedicated global team based across Africa, Latin America, the Americas, and Europe. We bring regional knowledge and networks, legal and advocacy expertise and above all, a strong, shared commitment to working with and for displaced communities to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to rebuild their lives safely and with dignity. ⚖️ If you want to learn more about what we do and explore ways to work together, please reach out to us via the support request form. Antoinette was born in Johannesburg. South Africa is the only home she's ever known. But without citizenship, she lives in fear of being deported. She cannot apply to university. She cannot even open a bank account. Antoinette is one of millions of young people around the world without citizenship which can mean a life without education, without medical care, or legal employment. We're working to change that. 🇰🇪 In Kenya, our legal work helped secure a judgment paving the way for citizenship by birth for children of refugee parents, and by marriage for refugee spouses. 🇿🇲 In Zambia, we recently won a case protecting 41,000 children's access to citizenship - giving them the right to go to school, see a doctor and apply for university. 🇺🇸 In the US, the Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship in a case we intervened in, protecting generations of children from being born stateless. Every case builds on the last. Every win means more young people like Antoinette can start to rebuild and feel like they belong. El Grupo de Acciones Públicas (GAP) de la Universidad del Rosario y el Global Strategic Litigation Council continúan con la serie “Conoce tus derechos”; esta explica de manera sencilla la Ley 2577 sobre desplazamiento forzado interno por factores ambientales y lo que significa para las personas afectadas. 👉🏽 En este cuarto video, conoce cómo se determina el origen de una emergencia ambiental. La ley establece la necesidad de certificar si el desplazamiento tuvo un origen natural o estuvo relacionado con una acción u omisión humana. Esto es fundamental para determinar si existe responsabilidad del Estado y cómo debe actuar. Meet Maryam. She's just 9 years old but she's one of thousands affected by the Trump administration's secretive web of third country deportation agreements. Under these deals, thousands are being sent to countries they have no connection to. They are detained, given limited food and medical care, and threatened with removal to the very countries they fled. At the Council, we are fighting back to hold both the US and receiving governments accountable. We're building a global-majority resistance to these agreements with partners across the world, challenging them in courts and the press. Su familia estaba solicitando asilo en Estados Unidos tras haber huido de su país debido a la persecución política. Después de pasar semanas detenida, la subieron a un avión junto con sus papás y la enviaron a Costa Rica, a una fábrica en medio de la selva. Fue detenida ahí por meses y veía serpientes venenosas y otros animales salvajes dentro y fuera de este centro. No podía salir libremente ni pude ir a la escuela. La familia de Maryam es una de las miles que han sido detenidas y enviadas a terceros países donde no tienen conexiones, por la administración de Estados Unidos. Desde el Consejo, luchamos contra estos acuerdos y hacemos que los países receptores sean responsables. Maryam y sus papás fueron liberados y hoy ya asiste a la escuela.
