We support #BeBrainPowerful Campaign 🧠
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
As part of our 40 to 40 campaign, we are honoured to share the perspective of Mara Hank, Vice Chair and President of the Global Bio Brain Trust, on the importance of caring for our brain health and mental well-being.

In this video, Mara reflects on how everyday habits can support both brain health and mental health. She highlights the importance of getting enough sleep, eating well, staying active, spending quality time with friends and family, nurturing our curiosity, and reaching out for support when needed. She reminds us that these habits are interconnected, each contributing to our overall well-being.

How do you take care of your mental health?

We’d love to hear your perspective. 💙

Women’s brain health is still not understood, studied, or addressed with the urgency it deserves.

On October 6, the Global BHP BrainTrust gathered leaders from science, policy, advocacy, philanthropy, and investment at Lausanne XIII for the first meeting of its Working Group on Advancing Sex- and Gender-Responsive Brain Health.

The goal: turn evidence into action for women’s brain and mental health by 2030.

Highlights from the day:
→ A call to bring women’s brain health into mainstream health policy, with earlier action and stronger links between prevention and care
→ Progress on FINGERS Plus for Women, exploring how diet, stress, sleep, and the gut microbiome shape brain health across women’s lives
→ Plans for the first clinical study of an emotional, arts-based intervention following an Alzheimer’s diagnosis

« We want to leave with actions, owners and commitments, not simply another good conversation. » Dr. Andrea Pfeifer, Chair, Global BHP BrainTrust

Next comes the Lausanne Action Agenda, a roadmap with clear priorities, accountable leaders, and measurable outcomes for women.

2026, A pivotal year.

For the first time in Switzerland, a treatment exists that can slow Alzheimer’s - not just manage symptoms.

Donanemab, authorised in February, reduces cognitive decline by around 30% in people at an early stage by clearing amyloid plaques.

It is not a cure, only about 1 in 10 patients currently qualifies. Access is tightly controlled.

At Geneva’s Centre de la Mémoire, this is arriving together with earlier blood-based diagnosis and a prevention pathway that starts at 50.

Hope is real, the window is still narrow, the system now has to catch up.

What if the way we think about aging and dementia is fundamentally wrong?

Dr. Florence Comite, precision medicine pioneer and author of Invincible: Defy Your Genetic Destiny to Live Better Longer, joins host Meryl Comer to make the case that cognitive decline is not inevitable.

From the difference between biological and chronological age, to the five key biomarkers everyone should know, Dr. Comite offers a science-backed roadmap for protecting your brain and body decades before crisis hits.

They discuss the role of hormones in cognitive function, and why dementia risk must be addressed in midlife. Dr. Comite advocates for precision medicine, wearable technology, and personalized lifestyle interventions as tools to delay the point where aging becomes disease.

If dementia or cognitive decline is a concern, this conversation is one you can't afford to miss.

A new study of 1,350 adults published in The Lancet suggests that blood biomarkers may be able to detect subtle signs of cognitive decline as early as your 50s and 60s — before symptoms appear.

The research, led by Dr. Kristine Yaffe of UCSF, measured proteins linked to beta-amyloid plaques in the brain — the same plaques that define Alzheimer's disease. Some participants showed early markers of cognitive change five years before it became measurable on standard tests.

But experts urge caution. These blood tests were developed for people already showing cognitive impairment, and in healthy individuals, the rate of false positives remains high. As one neurologist put it: "We're not quite there yet."

The science is promising. The conversation is just beginning.

Women make up nearly two-thirds of Alzheimer's diagnoses — and the majority of unpaid caregivers. Yet women's brains remain largely under-studied and underfunded.

During #AAIC2026, Maria Shriver, Joanne Pike and Hilary Evans-Newton are calling for a fundamental shift: fund dementia research with urgency, hold governments to their promises, and recognize unpaid caregiving for what it is — work.

Brain health is health. Women's brain health is women's health. The world can no longer afford to ignore either.

In this conversation with Dr. Nathaniel Chin — geriatrician, researcher, and author of When Memory Fades — they explore the practical and emotional realities of life after an Alzheimer's diagnosis. Drawing on both his clinical expertise and personal experience of caring for his father, Dr. Chin addresses the often-overlooked needs of care partners, the importance of acting quickly on legal and financial planning after diagnosis, and why lifestyle interventions matter even before seeing a specialist.

The conversation also touches on the complexity of mixed dementia diagnoses, the stigma patients face, behavioral symptoms that families should anticipate, and how pre-existing relationship dynamics don't disappear; they intensify.

Dr. Chin closes with an overview of the Clarity study, a national research initiative seeking participants to better understand multiple brain disease processes simultaneously.

You won’t want to miss this informative and personal interview!

The world's largest Alzheimer's research conference opens in London this Sunday — and expectations are high.

Over 11,000 researchers gather at #AAIC2026 (July 12–15) to present what could be landmark findings in treatment, early detection and prevention. Among the highlights: a next-generation anti-amyloid drug showing fewer side effects, a
tau-silencing therapy with surprising new data, real-world results from Alzheimer's blood tests, and lifestyle prevention trials from Latin America.

Dementia is now officially recognised as a noncommunicable disease by the United Nations. 🌍

It's a milestone decades in the making — but it's only the beginning. For years, mortality data excluded people over 70, hiding the true scale of dementia's impact in countries where it's already the #1 cause of death, like the UK and Australia.
And dementia isn't just a disease of old age: nearly 4 million people worldwide are living with early-onset dementia.

Up to 45% of cases could be delayed or prevented — yet awareness campaigns remain rare, and routine health checks still don't screen for cognitive health.
Recognition is a first step. Action is what's needed now. 💙

Two-thirds of Alzheimer's diagnoses are women — and it's not just about living longer. 🧠

Genetics, menopause, estrogen loss, chronic stress, and even caregiving responsibilities all play a role in why women face a higher risk. Neuropsychologist Dr. Jessica Caldwell's research reveals that the brain's memory centre is loaded with estrogen receptors — and when that estrogen drops at menopause, the brain has to adapt. For some women, that adaptation falls short.

The good news? Midlife is a powerful window for prevention. Exercise, nutrition, mental health, and regular medical check-ins can make a real difference — for your body and your brain.

Know the risk. Take care of your brain. 💙
