I had the pleasure of playing mas with @pyramasband for their second year on the road in Atlanta.

I first attended ATL Carnival in 2022 and learned then to be on time for the road & what to expect so this year was way more fun.

“Carnival Tabanca” is a Trinidadian term for the intense melancholy, depression, or deep longing experienced after the end of the annual Carnival celebrations. It represents a form of withdrawal or heartache, often described as a “love sickness” for the energy, freedom, and music of the festival, typically lasting until the next season.

As google puts it, that’s the sad part about attending carnival. You’ve waited all year then it hits you like a train at full speed. Fete after fete after fete. The euphoria hits its peak and then boom, it’s gone. Songs still humming in your head and then the tabanca sets in.

Exactly one week ago I took this picture, enjoying arguably the best fete on a boat for Jamaica Carnival, basking in the ☀️ sunshine. All of a sudden, after waiting one year, it’s now a memory.

Soca definitely teaches you one thing, live in the moment and absolutely enjoy life even if it’s from behind the camera.🙏🏽🍾
