“It is very good to be here, not only for me, but for many people.” Tiago has found a trusted, community-led space through a network of 20 outreach workers in Maputo, Mozambique. At this vibrant community center, people who too often face stigma and abuse are connected to vital healthcare, legal support and HIV services. The center is also helping connect communities to a new generation of HIV prevention. Tuberculosis (TB) remains the world's deadliest infectious disease, in part because too many people are diagnosed too late – or not at all. A new generation of near-point-of-care (NPOC) TB tests can help close that diagnostic gap by bringing rapid, accurate diagnosis closer to the people and communities that need it most. These new TB tests can: ✅ Deliver results in under an hour. ✅ Run with battery backup, making them suitable for remote settings where electricity can be unreliable. ✅ Bring high-quality molecular testing closer to primary health facilities and patients, moving beyond only centralized laboratories. Rather than replacing existing diagnostic tools, NPOC tests complement them by extending rapid molecular testing to more communities and people with limited access to care. With support from the @GlobalFund and partners, nearly 3 million tests are being rolled out across 13 countries, saving lives by helping people get diagnosed earlier, begin treatment faster and reduce transmission. by @globalfund

In the Sénou internally displaced person camp in Mali, overcrowding and disrupted health services increase the risk of tuberculosis (TB). AI-powered portable X-ray units screen people for TB in seconds, instead of days – speeding up the time people can be diagnosed and start treatment and limiting the spread of TB. Since 2021, the @GlobalFund has supported access to more than 2,700 portable X-ray units across 46 countries, expanding innovative TB screening in hard-to-reach and high-burden communities – where laboratories are often far away and specialists are scarce. #AIforGood Read more. “Silent voices don’t drive change.” That’s the motto at a community center in Maputo, Mozambique, where people who too often face stigma and abuse can find a safe space, along with access to vital health services, legal support and HIV prevention through a network of 20 outreach workers. Beyond direct support, the team works closely with healthcare providers, religious leaders and the police to promote services that are free from stigma. The center is also helping ensure that new HIV prevention tools, including twice-yearly injectable lenacapavir, are understood, trusted and accessible. Since 2010, the @GlobalFund investments have helped reduce new HIV infections in Mozambique by 45% – but with around 92,000 new infections each year, reaching those most at risk with prevention, testing and treatment remains critical to ending HIV as a public health threat. Extreme weather events pushed Zambia’s electricity supply to the brink of collapse. For laboratories, frequent power cuts threatened access to the most important diagnostic tools in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), the world’s deadliest infectious disease. But now, a new generation of small, lightweight, battery-powered near-point-of-care (NPOC) tests is helping bring rapid, accurate diagnosis closer to people – especially those in underserved and remote communities, where electricity can be unreliable. For a disease that has endured decades of a historically neglected innovation pipeline, this breakthrough is especially significant. With support from the @GlobalFund and partners, nearly 3 million tests will be delivered across 13 countries, saving many lives by helping more people get diagnosed earlier & begin treatment faster. “For far too long, TB has been the forgotten pandemic. “I am always here.” In Cambodia, Sok Dara and his team provide HIV testing, prevention and support services on a mobile van that reaches the people most at risk for HIV infection. Outreach workers like Dara are bringing health services closer to communities, helping expand access to the care that people need, and powering Cambodia’s remarkable progress towards ending AIDS. This month, the country achieved the global 95–95–95 HIV targets, becoming the very first country in Asia-Pacific to reach this groundbreaking milestone in the fight to end AIDS. Read more. Despite more than four years of war, Alla and her colleagues at the laboratory in Kharkiv have never stopped working. Last year alone, they carried out more than 11,400 tuberculosis (TB) tests, identifying 447 people with TB and ensuring they were put on treatment, helping protect millions from the world’s deadliest infectious disease. In 2025, 96% of newly detected TB patients were diagnosed using rapid molecular diagnostics, while 90% of confirmed cases were tested for drug resistance – meeting World Health Organization targets for effective, targeted care from the outset. Meet 14-year-old Elvis, deputy chair of his school’s Health Club in Kisumu County, Kenya. With children under 5 accounting for more than 75% of malaria deaths in the region, prevention, early action and community-led efforts against the disease are critical. Through skits, poems and songs, Elvis and other Health Club members share messages that resonate with their peers. They also come together to drain the stagnant water around the school and cut the long grass to help reduce mosquito breeding sites. Despite the challenges posed by extreme weather, funding gaps and mosquitoes in new areas, these young leaders remain determined to build a safer and #HealthierFuture for all, free from malaria. Even under relentless missile and drone attacks in Kharkiv, health workers continue the vital but often unseen work of detecting and treating tuberculosis (TB) – helping protect millions from the world’s deadliest infectious disease. Without treatment, a single person with TB can infect up to 15 others in a year. Every diagnosis and every person started on treatment prevents further transmission, helping to contain outbreaks before they spread. With support from the @GlobalFund and partners, Ukraine has maintained its TB diagnostic capacity through a nationwide network of 224 laboratories equipped with modern diagnostic technologies – ensuring the people most affected by the war are diagnosed for TB and rapidly put on treatment.
