Walking with my son in NYC today, a group of students called out to me warmly.

As I approached, one Jewish student shared that he was shaken by an antisemitic incident he had recently experienced. His friends wanted me to encourage him and lift him up.

What happened next was a reminder of the real New York.

Standing together were a Hindu, a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew, and one student who smiled and said, “I’m none.”

We spoke about identity, friendship, faith, and respect. Different backgrounds. Different cultures and views. One G-D, One shared humanity.

The loudest voices on social media often spread division. But most people are not looking for division, they are looking for connection.

For every act of antisemitism, let’s create a thousand moments of friendship.

For every expression of hate, a thousand acts of respect.

For every attempt to divide us, a thousand reminders that we belong together. by @globalrabbi

“We must recognize that we live in a precious world. It is not merely a garden that produces grains, but a garden that produces exquisite fruits and G-d has declared this world to be His personal garden.” The Rebbe

When I was 13 year old, on February 6, 1990, I visited the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson of righteous memory, on the night that marked the 40th year of his leadership.

The Rebbe handed me a Tanya as a gift to study from daily, a spiritual manual for life. When our eyes met, I looked into an ocean of deep love and felt an embrace of holiness that continues to inspire and guide me today.

Tonight and tomorrow mark 32 years since his physical passing. I will spend the day in proximity to his resting place, together with tens of thousands of others, as we recommit ourselves to his teachings and life mission.

Nearly two thousand years ago, the Mishnaic sage Rabbi Tarfon said of the human mission: “You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.”

The Rebbe taught that nineteen centuries later, given our exponential advances in science, medicine, and technology, we are now collectively and individually capable of and obligated to complete the work of perfecting the world. Otherwise, all our civilizational efforts will have been in vain.

Each of us must take action today to improve our lives, our families, our communities, our cities, and our countries. One by one, every one of the eight billion people on Earth must fulfill our G-d-given potential to refine the world.

We must envision a world in our lifetime with no hunger, war, refugees, or poverty. A world with healthcare access for all, and a primary education for every child focusing not only on skills and knowledge, but on developing character based on universal values, morals, ethics, human rights, and justice.

This is the perfect world of abundance that our Creator intended for all of humanity. by @globalrabbi

An honor to meet Canadian-Israeli philanthropist Sylvan Adams who this week announced a $100 million donation to rebuild
Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva that suffered heavy damage from an Iranian missile in June.

“Our answer to Iran is to build back bigger and better,” Adams said. “On the very place where missiles fell, we will build in Beersheba, the capital of the Negev, a state-of-the-art hospital that will be one of the most advanced in the Middle East.”

Soroka Hospital in Beer-Sheva, Israel, serves over 1 million residents in the Negev region, including Jews, Muslims, Christians and Beduins and covers 60% of Israel’s land area. 1,191 beds, 287,000 annual visits, 30,000 surgeries, 17,000 babies or 46 per day, 900 doctors and 300 nurses. by @globalrabbi

Texas Chabad Brings Aid to Flood Victims

Three years ago Rabbi Yossi and Malky Marrus founded Chabad of Boerne. Now, their small Chabad house has transformed overnight into an aid distribution center, following the devastating flash floods that swept across the Texas Hill Country, killing at least 81 and leaving thousands injured or homeless.

With the aid of @globalrabbi, Chabad of Boerne has coordinated with local elected officials and businesses to bring much-needed aid to victims, survivors and first responders.

To contribute to the relief efforts, visit Jewishboerne.org/relief
