For the time I spent in DC I had the privilege of being a regular at the Kennedy Center. It was a true joy seeing a cultural institution that offered such a range of programming to serve the community. We attended classical performances of music, dance and theater… lectures from people like David Sedaris… Happy Hour shenanigans with #MonicaBillBarnes… StarWars with the Orchestra… Virtual Reality performance demonstrations… we even went to stargaze when local hero Dave Chappelle got his Mark Twain award…. Yadda yadda yadda… but beyond ticketed performances… part of my weekly routine would bring me to the Kennedy Center at 6pm for the daily free show at the Millennium Stage. I was always so smitten seeing the seniors who walked over from the Watergate each night for the random performances from all walks of life. I also liked when I saw tourists who figured out this great hack for a truly wholesome experience. A quick snack or meal on the rooftop cafe, walking the grounds of the new TheReach, take in the views of the river and Georgetown - then a free show!!! I find it very frustrating that David Rubenstein and so many generous donors have given so much to preserving and operate this treasure just to have it made a mockery of by the current administration… if you have actually read this far I’ll add - whoever thought they would constrict the DEI theme in the arts clearly doesn’t understand The Arts. For the record the last show I saw there before Donny got all Kennedy center crazed was &Juliet after Tea at the Shakespeare Library… because - of course!!! I look forward to this time being behind us… and The KENNEDY Center is able to return to its former days… #MakeAmericaNotEmbarrassingAgain taken in KennedyCenter by @glssblwr

30 years ago today - I was lucky enough to meet this young lady at a college hayride party. Assembling 20 photos out of a lifetime together was an impossible task… I could have posted a hundred just of her hugging elephants, cheetahs and pigs… or just her sleeping with stuff balanced on her head… or with the Chihuahuas… to know Valerie is to know that I am very fortunate to have a partner of such kindness and generosity. Valerie truly stands out as a person of virtue and integrity and I feel very lucky to have her as my everything. #Leva taken in Mohonk Mountain House by @glssblwr

My Grandma, Margret Kind, knew no limits in love. She embraced all that crossed her path and will for long be remembered as an inspiration for her compassion and civility. Having survived the worst type of tragedy she represents a generation of survivors that still found love for her neighbors even after being given a reason not to. To have known my grandmother is to have been in awe of how unanimously loved she was in return. —— I have fond memories sitting around the kitchen table playing rummikub with My grand parents and their friends the Millers. They would eat rugelach and kibitz… this is the warm feeling of childhood. She will be missed by many and much by me. ❤️❤️❤️ by @glssblwr

I’ve been mostly off news for a while… but heard there are some changes at my beloved Kennedy Center… I was fortunate to be able to spend a year as a DC tourist and on dozens of evenings I found myself at the Free 6 PM performances. I never knew who or what I was seeing - music, spoken word, hopefully dance… Val and I often take a walk around the building and the new Reach arts pavilions taking in the architecture, gardens, and art installations. We’ve also seen David Sedaris, Monica Bill Barnes, Orchestras playing along side movies, Singers and dancers, jugglers and clowns, and obviously broadway type shows. We even stalked the red carpet on the night Chappell got his Mark Twain Price. Recently we saw &Juliet and then tea at the Folger Shakespeare Library - cause that how we roll yo! I guess my point is… is there even conservative theater / performing arts? Do we really want to discourage the best artists from sharing their work at the nation’s capitol? I’m not sure Kid Rock and Company are going to fill the gap if The Arts are not welcome at the Kennedy Center. You can’t change the tone of art culture by taking over a famous theater…. by @glssblwr
